Curse of the Blue Tattoo is probably my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. Keep reading the series and I'm sure you'll fall in love with all the young men our vivacious Jacky runs in to! In the Belly of the Bloodhound is tough to read because it's easy to imagine people of the day having similar experiences. In Mississippi Jack, Jacky comes to the new country, and in My Bonny Light Horseman, she finds her way to France. In the most recent book, Rapture of the Deep, she's off the coast of Cuba!

How did you like Curse of the Blue Tattoo? I love the Bloody Jack series. It keeps getting better and better. LA Meyer is very talented.

Thanks for the rec! I was aware of those books when I worked at a bookstore, but I don't read a ton of YA stuff so I never picked it up. However, I read a novella by Garth Nix in a fantasy anthology I bought and it was fairly promising, so I might check out more. What is it that you particularly like about that series?

Hey Beth, What a lovely note! Thank you for that & your friendship. I'm so glad you enjoyed On Fortune's Wheel. Have you picked up Robin McKinley's latest, Chalice? It was also very good.

Let's see, some more in that vein...My memory is not as good as it used to be, so forgive me if I've mentioned some of these before. Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind is superb. Let me echo Loweye' sentiment down below about Guy Gavriel Kay. I've loved everything he's ever written. For fun adventure stories, try some Robin Hobb.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Have you ever read Guy Gavriel Kay's 'Fionavar tapestry'-series? It's marvolous! It's for older readers than the Prydain-series, though come to think of it you might move naturally from 'The High King' (Prydain 5) to 'The Summer Tree' (Fionavar 1). The others in the series are 'The Wandering Fire' and 'The Darkest Road'. I've also enjoyed David Eddings' Belgariad-series.

Are you looking for something YA? Anything by Lloyd Alexander and to a lesser extent McKinley is good. I loved The Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce but then I don't think she's written anything I didn't like. The Stoneways Trilogy by S C Butler is pretty good and the third book is coming out this month. If you haven't read the Chronicles of Narnia, I think everyone should. : ) A series I enjoyed a long time ago but haven't read since is The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.

    Well, there's a start. : )
