Hey Shasta! I haven't seen you around for a while. Hope everything is going well.
No worries! As you may or may not know (I'm sure I've mentioned it, but you may or may not have noticed or remember), I rarely buy books. I get them from the library. I don't have much shelf space, it doesn't cost anything (well, we do have a minimal yearly fee here), and I almost never re-read a book anyway. I would have had to wait for this book if I wanted it from the library for a while, so it was offered to me. I am still hoping to pass it on to someone else who would like to read it. Hope you like it once you get to it! Have a great week!
Shasta, I was trying to remember who had wanted to read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and someone else commented on the review, so I saw you wanted to read it. Someone from PBT (I've forgotten who now - Jes, maybe, or Jen M?) mailed the book to me, so I was wondering if you wanted me to pass it on? If you do, feel free to "friend" me and send me a message with your mailing address. Or, you could put your address in a note to me, and once I write it down, I can delete it. Let me know. :-)
I LOVED the show. I plan on buying it as soon as it hits dvd. That's actually what made me buy the books.
Thanks so much for sending me an invite :) I am ready for True Blood tonight! I set it up on the DVR and then as I was looking through the recording schedule it didn't show it on. When I went through the HBO schedule I found it on Saturday this week so I'm all good now :) Have a good nite!
Yeah it's hard to know that a book would be boring when you hear so much about it and people recommend it to you.. btu tastes defer!! Maybe your sister-in-law liked it?!My first language is Arabic since I'm from Saudia Arabia :) what about you ?!
Okay, it's been too quiet. Share with us what you're reading, what you're feeling, what you're up to. Come by Color Online and sit a spell. You're missed. Peace. ~zawadi
Yeah I realized that through reading your reviews too.. :)I liked Guilty Pleasures very much as for Eat, Pray, Love I'll tell you the truth.. I didn't finish it!! I tried and tried but I just couldn't even get past Italy.. She kept whining and whining and I was like come on every person has his problems but we don't go writing it in a book.. I felt like that.. so I just couldn't finish it.. although my cousin recommended the book to me and lent it to me actually.. I'm happy I didn't go buy it :)I would prefer to waste my time on fiction that I enjoy rather than non-fiction that is boring just to make people think I'm hip.. LOLGood luck on finishing the book.. :) The problem with Shelfari is they don't have a shelf for "never to be completed books" or it would have been there.. I just didn't want to put it in my tbr anymore..
LOL That's David James Elliot from JAG.
Welcome to Better than Starbucks! Look around, make yourself at home, start a new thread or dig up an old one or just read and jump in on the more active ones.Glad to see you are already doing so!
Shasta,Hi, friend! I can't tell you how delighted I am that you enjoyed the book. I just saw your review . . .and I can tell you share my feelings about it. A real life thriller!I have seen the movie (which I think was for television maybe?), and it is very, very good, although I liked the book better (I always do . . lol). Another VERY enjoyable thing to rent is the series called "Everest" from I believe, the Discovery Channel. It was a television series about climbers attempting Everest. I really liked it.
Chica, where are you? You won. Do you not want your prize? :-)
Congratulations, you're our current FFF winner. Come by and select your prize from our new, Prize Bucket. Peace. ~zawadi
Thank you, Shasta for your warning. I was just copying my review from my bookshelf and I didn't think about that.
I would have sent a private message but you don't have that option on. Might want to delete my message. I see some young people enjoy chatting with you.
Hey, you're missed at Color Online. Come by. Chat with us some. Hope you had a good Christmas. Peace. ~zawadi

That's weird...it's not rated when I look at it on my shelf! I took the book off and then readded it...did that fix my problem?
Hi Shasta! I actually haven't read Hot, Flat, and Crowded yet...it is on my tbr pile patiently waiting for it to be picked up! If you're looking for a good environment book though that focuses on climate change, I would recommend Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet by Mark Lynas. I read it recently and thought he did a great job of explaining the kind of environmental changes we can expect with each degree Celcius of warming that occurs. When I do get around to HFC, I will definitely let you know what I think! :)
