I manage a indie bookstore, which for me, is sort of like giving an alcoholic a job as a bartender! Needless to say, my whole world is full of books, books at work, books at home and books that haven't even come out yet! I feel fortunate to work at something I love and have reading as my homework. By the way, I also love cats as much as... more »

Will do. I'll do them sooner rather than later since both are recent reads and fresh in memory. About how long do you want them to be?
I was pleased to hear from Bookbrowse that they are using my First Impression review of "State by State" as the consensus review (along with industry/media reviews) on that book's page on their site.
    See you Thursday evening.

Linda, I think my reading "output" is largely a function of not watching much TV. Brooks and Will are big computer guys, so I have lots of free time in the evening to indulge my reading addiction.
I'd be happy (honored) to write reviews for "Nightstand." Just let me know what and how ;-)
I think the easiest way to read my Shelfari reviews for individual books is to click on the cover of any book that shows the review icon. That takes you to the book page. Then you can click on Readers and Reviews tab up top, and all the reader reviews appear for that book. There may be a faster way to do it, but I haven't found it yet.
I'm still on "Cloud 9" over the Yankees...and already missing baseball 'til next spring. Sorry to read about Lincecum ;-( He's my fav young player.
Definitely planning to come to the "Sweetsmoke" event. I'm starting the book later today. "Indifferent Stars" was awesome. Brutally real, but absolutely amazing.

Don Pollock actually blurbed my book :). When you have a chance, e-mail me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com), and I'll send you the e-book.

    Thanks again,

Sorry I missed Knoxx on Thursday; I had a last minute "fire" at work. The Book Club Mixer was AWESOME!!! You and Lorilee are doing some amazing things. You are THE indie book store. I can't imagine life without you ;-)

I haven't started the Hoffman book yet (I'm reading Isaac's Storm by Erik Larson), but it is next on the stack. You're comments have really piqued my curiosity.

    See ya soon,

    Hi L--

I just finished reading "Finn." All I can say is WOW. If you have a used copy of "the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" on the shelves, could you ask Aleks to put it aside for me?

    Thanks and happy 4th!

I wish I had your memory! My husband thinks that my brain is more like a sieve than camera. I make lists, lots of lists. (Of course, then I lose the lists or stuff them in my purse which amounts to the same thing!) Oh well, such is life.

I am chomping at the bit to get some reading done at home. I've been reading lots of fluff lately, as I don't have time or patience for anything with substance. Hopefully, this is just a late-winter anti-reading abberation!!

I gotta' run as I have classes this afternoon...keeps me busy. E-mail me at raspberrymocha55@yahoo.com.

Have you ever used any of those online library cataloging programs? I'm hoping that when we get a computer in our home this summer that I can start actually cataloging things. I hate finding good deals on books, but not remembering what exactly I am missing or needing by certain authors. So, of course I always end up with a few repeats along the way.

I am so jealous of your signed copies! We come across a few very now and then, but not enough to pull out and shelve alone. We live out in the boonies, so there is no chance of even getting to a book signing. However, I did sign up with a book reviewing group to get ARCs. I'm really excited! It's going to be a bit tricky as I have to use the public library computer to longon and put in my reviews etc., as my work computer doesn't allow for many commercial sites or things like Facebook and Myspace.

Not much else is going on. 1/3 of my students were out sick this morning in my high school classes. I don't feel too hot, so I'm heading home a bit early after my last class. It's just some form of the flu that is going around the county, I guess. Have a wonderful day!

The tables are endtables and coffee tables for next to our chairs. We simply decided not to have a living room on our home, as we figured we needed a library more (and besides, it takes visitors by surprise when they walk in...LOL) Right now we are sitting at around 2500 hardcover volumes, and we are running out of shelving. Some day we would love to build in the book cases and put in one of those cool rolling library ladders, but that's not happening any time soon (like, probably never in my lifetime.) I've got 1000+ paperbacks stashed upstairs in the 2 guest rooms. We've got a family room that has the TV and stuff in it.

I'll check that book out on Amazon. I'm always looking for new authors. Heaven help me if I like it, as then I become rather OCD.

I was home sick in bed all weekend; I couldn't have read if I had wanted to. My hubby dragged me out of bed to go to an auction. We ended up with 4 gorgeous Thomasville Queen Anne cherry tables for our library. However, we left a bid, and didn't stay, as I wanted to just go home and try to sleep without coughing up a lung. This just must be one of those darn spring colds the kids have been coughing at and upon me for the past several weeks!

I am so excited! It is supposed to rain and storm all weekend. Therefore, I won't be able to do much of anything but drink coffee and read! I am so far behind in my reading. I've got a couple books for my bookclub that I need to read. Have you ever read Anja the Liar or The Whistling Season? Neither thrills me but I will read them nonetheless. I just got in a few Connellies and a couple Cobens. I've been ordering older books, as I hate jumping into series without having some idea where the characters have been. Only a few more hours of work, and I will head home to read...if my family will give me a few minutes alone. (I don't see this happening...) Have a great weekend!

I live in western Illinois just a few miles across the Mississippi River from Hannibal, MO. My husband is the cat rescuer in the family, I just enable him! My shelf is kinda sparse , as I don't have anything pre-2008. I taught English for years and figured it would take way too long to find everything that I have ever read!

Hey Linda! I work for Book A million--southern chain started right her in Alabama, but it is spreading out--there's even one in Chicago, now. I love working in a bookstore--it isn't the ideal store,I'd love to work for a little indie place, but this is walking distance from my house and they really like me and work around my kids school schedule--so I'm pretty content there.

Off to sell Girl Scout cookies! Have a great Saturday!

I am glad you liked The Godmother, I did too. It is very different from Rain Village but the story is still imersed in magic! Good to know about the Carolyn Chute book, I won't waste my time!:) Missed working with you on Monday. That will be great if you stop by tomorrow! The shots suck, but I took your advice and use ice now which really helps.

What did you think of The Godmother? Also did you like the Carolyn Chute book? I've been wondering if I should read her since she has a new one out. I think I read something about her in a PW which sounded intriguing.

    Thank you!

I know Walnut Creek and Lafayette - I have some friends who lived in Lafayette for a while! I love it, it is so pretty there. I really miss the Bay Area. I wondered if you had a teenager - I think I saw a book about raising teens on your shelf. My two are 3 and 2 so I am kept on my toes. It must be nice to be around books all day - I am sure it is pretty busy this time of year!

thanks for accepting my friend request - I am still getting through your shelf and doing lots of "shopping" - are you in san francisco? I used to live there, which is probably why your picture caught my eye. I'm in St. Louis now - and yes, 2 little kids that I have a ton of fun with! I'll be interested to know what you think of Nekropolis and A Doll's House when you have a chance to read them!
