“The plot centers around a proclamation by the governor of Virginia that is so asinine that I found it to be totally ludicrous . In fact, it appeared to me that the book was simply a character assassination of people in power positions. The only saving grace was that she did include two semi-intelligent characters, Andy Brazil, a Virginia state trooper, and Judith Hammer, Superintendent of the Virginia State Police.
The mystery itself has really nothing to do with the Governor's ridiculous proclamation. The mystery is centered around a group of psychopathic murderers who perform random acts of violence and have kidnapped Popeye, a dog belonging to Superintendent Hammer who will do anything to get it back.
Even more ridiculous than the human characters are the animals; dogs and fish who can think and communicate with each other. This book should be a pass if you prefer believable characters. Her stab at black humor was a dismal failure.”
