Never take someone for granted. Hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up some day and realize that you've lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones.

Hahaha I'm a lawyer too! And I agree with you, it's not the most desirable job in the world... and to add bad to worse, I also am a teacher at law school, I'm helping make more of us! :D

And about your trip, I like that about some places in Europe, they make you feel as if you were in another time. I specially like the places that look and feel medieval!

I'm also just beginning school and work... I could not travel this summer, but I'm hoping to make a long journey when I finish my Master's. I hope to get to know Hungary, Chech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and maybe Russia!

Where did you travel to this summer?

I also got interested in the book by a friend, but just haven't got around to read it, so thanks in advance for the oppinion!

And by the way, what kind of work do you do?

    Andreea:

I'm actually reading the book you mention by Cioran, although, in spanish: "En las cimas de la desesperación". It's very beautiful and, at the same time, very sad... But i'm hooked, I will look for every one of his works I can get my hands on.

I hadn't hear of Iulia Hasdeu, but I will look for her works. I really like literature from Eastern Europe, writers from that latitude have a whole different way of seeing life. Deeper perhaps, maybe a little bleaker. I try to read as much from those latitudes as possible, like Sándor Márai and Ismaíl Kadaré, and now, Cioran. Sadly, they are not very known or easy to find in Mexico. Have you ever read any mexican literature?

Lindqvist is from Sweden (we have been having a Sweden-trend, ever since the Millenium books by Larsson) he wrote the book on which the movie "Let the Right one In" is based. Have you seen the movie or heard about it? It is great! I really think you should check it out.

About the weather, this is supposed to be the coldest winter in Mexico ever. Compared to the temperatures over there in Romania, you could say we have a nice weather. But for us, it is unusually cold. I hope it eventually snows... It would be great to see snow here, for the first time ever! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    Good night!

Hey Andreea! Sorry it took me so long to reply, but with the holidays and all i've been quite unplugged. How are you? I hope you have a great year!

Kafka has always been one of my favorites, although I find him also difficult. But I think that makes him a better read. Anne Frnak's diary has been on my list for years now, but haven't got to read it yet, I hope to soon.

Right now i'm reading this guy E.M. Cioran; philosophical and depressing, but very inspired reflections. I think he is from Romania, have you ever read him? I would also like to recommend you a book I read last month "Handling the Undead" by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It's a great read!

    Have a nice day!

Well, I really would recommend "The Sheltering Sky" by Paul Bowles, I had to read it for a class this semester and it was amazing. A bit dark and gloomy but I loved that book!

And on a less serious, more entertaining read, I found Takashi Matsuokas "Cloud of Sparrows" very beautiful and well written. Maybe it's because I really like japanesse tales of the Meiji era but, i'm looking for the second installment of the series. Maybe you'll like it too.

How about you? Anything to recommend?

    Cheers!

    Hey Andrea!

I haven't actually got around to read Dr. Zhivago because when I finally bought the book, my mom started to read it. She says its quite good and she is really enjoying it, so I guess from her comments that you should keep going. I hope to read it during the holidays and really looking forward to it.

    Have a nice day!

N-am citit Quo vadis, e si la mine in plan, am tot auzit lucruri faine de ea, alaturi de Ben Hur, cred ca sunt din acelasi gen.
Cat despre Palahniuk, m-a dezamagit complet!!

You're welcome :) Hopefully you will get enough replies from people to make a decision on whether to read it. I find that a lot of people don't respond to the Should I Read This section though.
