I was born and grew up in Malawi (Nyasaland) and was educated in Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as the UK. For the past 12 years I have lived in Wales but my heart is still in Africa and I have been back many times. Meantime I teach adults (anyone from 16 to 95!) how to use their computers and as everyone knows teachers are... more »

    Dear Sir Finwy,

I have passed along your request to Lord Manleigh. Although pleased to see an inquiry from someone hailing from the former colonies (we have members from Trinidad, India and New Zealand), he wonders if perhaps you'd consider a moniker more gender-appropriate, as our members have enough difficulty remembering each other's aliases without adding to the confusion. If it is a matter of sartorial comfort, his Lordship is certain you'd find much in common with our Lady Hermione ffotheringhay-featherstonehaugh (p. fungy-fanshaw), whose preferred attire is a tweed suit, a monocle, a Trilby and a Cuban cigar.

He does hope his request does not cause offense.

    Your svt,

    Edgar Danvers (Mrs.)

Hi Claire, thanks for the friendship invite - I accept. I only spent 7 months in Uganda but Africa still managed to get into my soul and I see we have some matching Africa books on our shelves. I have been going through a non-fiction phase in my reading for the last several months, but I have just started "On Beauty" by Zadie Smith - prompted by the Anglophiles Anonymous group here. I hope you enjoy Shelfari, but beware - it can be very addictive and cut into your reading time!

Hi Claire the reading lover, cute picture! I had severe OCD, anxiety attacks, and depression for over thirty years but finally had enough and overcame most of it. I wrote a quirky and humorous book called Man Interrupted detailing how I did it. I have Oscar winner Mel Brooks on the cover praising it.. Please check out Man Interrupted at www.amazon.co.uk or www.play.com as play has free shipping. If you don't get stuff on line or pop into a Waterstones or any book shop this weekend and ask for Man Interrupted by James Bailey.. Let me know? Cheers James.
