You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be -
I had a mother who read to me.

    Dearest, I'm looking for something easy to read, and I noticed you've read Georgette Heyer. Do you recommend her?

    Oh, Mariah! Yes, I remember her well. She left us quite suddenly and took a position at... where was it now? It's on the tip of my tongue...

    I am delighted to accept your request. I see we have lots of common favourites. I'm sure we'll have a great time talking books.

    Yes, and I'm enjoying it. I think, though, that I'm going to set the Yeats aside for a while; all the Irish identity is overwhelming me in this dosage. The early poetry, at least, is so rich of reference, and to a folklore one knows nothing of -- I've been skipping about, of course, and reading the later poems with the early, but I still think I'll keep the rest for another time, or the experience is going to grow overripe.

    Of late I've been looking wistfully at what Tinky calls The Wall of Ulysses; perhaps in November, which is holiday season in this country...

    Yes, he's one of those writers who, at least for me, inspires admiration and respect rather than "like" -- and I don't think he cares a whit if one likes it or not. He likes it, and that's enough.

    I've read "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" twice, I think ... I quite admire it. It's as far as I can go with Joyce before we hit the wall of "Ulysses" and can't go any further.

    Thank you so much for the formal friendship request, dear. It has been lovely seeing you more often around AA!

    Are you going to read The Monk with the group? I don't think I shall; for some reason it just doesn't pique my interest.

    No worries, Kate! I do hope sometime soon that you'll have the opportunity to come and visit my state. I'd love to show you around. Very little snow where I live (once every ten years or so). But the mountains around us get heaps! Have a wonderful weekend, Kate!

    Ah, yes. We sometimes call that the "pillow and the punch" technique.

    Have I ever told you that my college mascot was the kangaroo? I used to collect them and have about 200+.
