(thinking) how about my favorite album? would anyone want to know that? It is also the greatest existential album ever and Bruce Springsteen's worst seller, Nebraska. favorite movie right now: Lone Star. (oh no...now I can't stop) favorite food: grits (of course). things i collect: lunch boxes, books, Sherlock Holmes stuff. greatest fear (actually I am afraid of everything): biscuits. the refrigerated tube kind. I am not sure which is more terrifying, the kind you press with your thumb til it explodes or the kind that explodes at some unknown point as you peel off the outer wrapper. favorite song: Common People by William Shatner (and, no, I am not joking). if you read any of my book reviews here, do not worry about spoilers. they are something I hate and will never do to you. I will not even read the inner flap of a dust cover on a hardback novel or the back or opening page of a paperback because those little descriptions are written by the publishing company and not the author and can (and do) tell way too much about plot lines and characters. this all should be delivered to me in its elemental flow as I read the book. If I give someone a book as a gift, which I do frequently, I tape little pieces of paper over any publishers description. People can read the book because I said it was great and gave it to them...not if they like what those damned flaps say. I read a book because someone recommended it to me or it is an author I like or a book an author I like likes or come to it from various other directions. Almost never because I picked it up and read the flap. (oh, no, I may be ranting here...refocus, Existential Johnny) I was talking about book reviews and how mine are safe to read. I mostly tell you my emotional response to a book. I will not reveal plot lines or character descriptions. I may give a a bit of an idea about what a book is about, or some effect a character had on me but in a careful way. if you are dogged enough to read this profile/rant up to this point you may as well waste some more time read a review or two I have written to get an idea of what I am talking about.
