    The Name of the Wind

I loved this book! It's been a while since I've read a fantasy novel that was completely original and unpredictable. I loved Kvothe's voice in the novel, and I loved that it was the comfort of the fantasy genre but with an engaging new plot.

Not bad for a first fantasy novel. Intriguing concept to the plot. I just wish it had better copy editing-- there were LOTS of glaring errors that an editor should have caught.

    My Life in France

I enjoyed Julia Child's descriptions of France, especially Provence. Fun overall, although near the middle it got a little slow.

    Garlic and Sapphires

Such a fun book! I loved her humor, and I loved that there were recipes in there-- and the recipes are good and easy! I did think it was a little longer than it needed to be; it bogged down a little in the middle. Good overall, though.

    The Moonstone

What a fun, fun read! I have no idea how I got through all these years of reading Victorian novels and never read Wilkie Collins, but I plan on reading more after enjoying this so much. It's a detective novel, told from multiple, mostly unreliable perspectives. LOTS of fun.

    Pudd'nhead Wilson

    • Rated 3 stars

It's been a while since I read this, and I forgot how caustic parts of it are. It still had the Twain humor, but it's darker and more biting. Not a "fun" Twain read, because he's moving more towards social commentary, but still a good read.

    World War Z

Terrific book! I loved that it had a nonfiction feel despite it's completely implausible plot basis. There was just enough "realness" to it to think, "Hey, a zombie apocalypse could really happen." And if it did, it would be scary.

    Comfort Food

I got this as a Christmas gift. It's a very Anne Tyler-esque book, with a protagonist who wants to fix everything in her semi-dysfunctional family. Happy ending. Not a lot of substance, but it was a nice vacation read.

    Moby-Duck

Fun premise, although the book didn't quite deliver for me. I learned some interesting things, but there were so many different topics-- not all really related to the original goal of the book-- that I got a little bored. Okay, not fabulous.

Fun read! I'm not a basketball fan, but there was enough other interesting stuff going on that I was pulled in. Plus, I know the author and commented on an early draft, so it's fun to see the final product.

The Mansion by Van Dyke, Henry published by Nabu Press (2010) [Paperback]

This was okay. It's nice for Christmas, and it has a good message about what matters in life. Not the best writing, though, and a bit heavy-handed for my taste.
