    Hello Alan,
I can recommend Conn Igguldens Conquerer series, which just had its third book come out, saw it at stanstead airport but promised myself to get it after i had finished the already mountainous pile of books waiting for me. Its about Genghis Khan and so far has been even better than the Ceasar books, I see you have added lots of steven saylor to your wishlist. Cant say i have heard of him but will have to take a look.
Unfortunately I am probably in need of direction as far as the historical fiction genre is concerned. Bernard Cornwell is the author I gather to be the godfather of this genre, He covers vikings and King Arthur.
Serious history...I would recommend Tom Holland's Rubicon and Persian fire.
I see you like Sci-fi...I havent read much of the genre, but i have a book called River of Gods by Ian M. Macdonald, I really cant wait to read it...its about India in 60 years time, complete with sci fi technology and semi independent states, wars over water...it just looks great..
