Happily married, mom to three grown children and Mamaw to four grandchildren. I have loved to read all my life and an avid collector of both cookbooks and reading books.

I enjoy most all genres, except sci-fi, only because I've never read any. I may try it someday, but for now I have other interests. Some of my favorite authors... more »

  • Sacred Intentions (Arrington Saga~ prequel book 3)
    • Rated 4 stars

This is the third book in this trilogy, but also a prequel to the second and third, so I read it first and glad I did, because it explained so much more of the family in earlier times. I wasn't too fond of a "particular relationship" in the story, but overall I liked the book. Reading the second book in this trilogy now and enjoying it.

Book 1. The Girl in the Lighthouse
Book 2. All That Is Beautiful
    Book 3. Sacred Intentions (prequel)

Excellent read! I love Ellen Block's writing and her characters...set in Chapel Isle, NC, a tiny town with an assortment of townspeople who will keep you turning pages. A quick, and cozy mystery and I've started the sequel this morning, A Definition of the Wind, and already enjoying it as much as the first book. Definitely recommended to those who enjoy books about lighthouses, gruff characters, humor, and a love for words. I want to read more of this author.

Loved it and could not put it down for a second! I just finished a few minutes ago, a great sequel to The Language of Sand. The storyline was so engrossing, and mysterious, along with humor and I just enjoyed it so much. Upon reading the Readers Guide at the end of the book, I learned how the author found her story, through her own experiences and a research of famous lighthouses with a history all their own. One in particular caught my eye, Fairport Harbor Lighthouse, because I've visited there and climbed the spiral staircase to the top and stood on the turret. I was fascinated with it, as well as lighthouses in general. They also have a nice musemn. It was a nice surprise to see she included some history of that lighthouse. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has a love for mystery, lighthouses, and unusual, but lovable characters. I can't wait for Ms. Block's next book, and I will definately read her earlier books.

A real tearjerker...a love story, but also a learning experience for anyone who doesn't know much about AIDS and inspiring in itself because of the love between two people, a man and a woman. Its also about secrets kept, family, and so much more. A love story that is beautiul, daring, and emotionally devastating...it packs a great wallop. Make sure you read this, with a handful of tissues! I really loved this book.

I loved this book...my top favorite for the year! Ms. Kearsley is a wonderful author...I'm loving the time-travel genre and she does a super job of bringing romance, suspense, historical and contemporary storylines so intriging it makes me wish I could travel back in time. I would definately recommend this book.

    From the back cover:
Eva Ward returns to the only place she truly belongs, the old house on the Cornish coast, seeking happiness in memories of childhood summers. There she finds mysterious voices and hidden pathways that sweep her not only into the past, but also into the arms of a man who is not of her time.

  • Bloodroot
    • Rated 5 stars

    From the book cover:
Named for a flower whose blood-red sap possesses the power both to heal and poison, Bloodroot is a stunning fiction debut about the legacies - of madness, faith, and secrets, passion and loss - that haunt one family across the generations, from the Great Depression to today.

The novel is told in a kaleidoscope of seamlessly woven voices and centers around an incendiary romance that consumes everyone in its path.

I really like Amy Greene's story of Bloodroot Mountain, and its inhabitants; her characters are believable and make the story come alive. I love Appalachian novels, for their beauty and love of the mountains, the grace and sometimes shocking and spellbinding people within the pages. I can't wait to read Ms. Greene's next novel. I would definately recommend this book to those who love a journey into the mountains of Appalachia, the mystery of the characters in the story, and a book you won't soon forget.

  • The Compass

    The Compass

by Tammy Kling, John Spencer Ellis
    • Rated 5 stars

From the inside cover...The Compass ia a metaphor for the journey of our lives. In the tradition of The Alchemist, The Compass provides you with specific life lessons about authenticity, self-impowerment, and believing in your dreams. As humans we are all connected - by love, pain, and sometimes even by tragedies or events we cannot control. Each one of us travels a unique path, yet are linked by experiences and emotions. In this connectiveness, there is life. This book is a novel, with a powerful story and message within. I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to everyone...because no matter who you are or what your life is...a message is there for you.

This is my second science fiction read, and I really liked it. It's a story of time-travel, and one that kept me turning pages to see what happened next, despite the sad conditions in a pre-Civil era.

    From the book cover:
Dana, a modern black woman is celebrating her birthday with her new husband when she is snatched from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned across the years to save him. After this first summons, Dana is drawn back, again and again, to the plantation to protect Rufus and ensure that he will grow to manhood and father the daughter who will become Dana's ancestor. Yet each time Dana's sojourns become longer and more dangerous, until it is uncertain whether or not her life will end long before it has even begun.

    A really good read!
