Welcome to my book nook!

I live in Massachusetts/USA, and I am retired.
Audiobooks are my drug of choice! Listening
to Lux Radio Theatre plays from the 40's and
50's is also a passion of mine. I enjoy eBooks

Hello Janice! Thanks for the friend invite. I just read your inforamation. I got a Kindle last week (early Christmas - couldn't wait for dh to put under the tree). I LOVE it. Now I have to decide to read a paper book, my Kindle, or listen to MP3! I usually have something going in all three!!

That would be interesting! Whats the name of the group? I got a Sony 505 earlier in the year, so I'm interested in learning as much as I can about ebooks and finding websites to buy ebooks.

I had a great Thanksgiving Janice, hope you did also. I think I must have had a TIA the day I joined because all I could think of was audio books. After I posted I realized it was eBooks. I like smaller groups and look forward to being a member.

    Hi Janice
Sorry for the delay in replying to your note. I am glad you enjoyed the Bess Crawford book. I am looking forward to more in this series. I have read the Ian Rutledge mysteries as well. They are good but I think I like Bess better. I was finding the Rutledge books a bit redundant and was ready for a change.
Right now I am reading the latest by Louise Penny. She is a Canadian mystery writer and the setting for her books is a rural area in Quebec. I Like them as well.
I am always excited to find a new author I like who has a series of novels--another source to satisfy the reading addiction!
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

I will get more active in your group... I have not been feeling so good and only stop in at the comp for 5 minutes every time I get up to go to the "girl's room"....been real tired and my O2 concentrator has just blown gasket for the second time in 2 weeks.... I have been listening to Old Time radio while getting lots of rest.

Thanks for the note, Janice. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! Yes, Erin did have a good idea. That's what convinced me about the app.

Janice - I can't download any as I haven't an ereader yet. Hoping to get one as a Christmas gift from the kids. For our 2 wks in Maui I downloaded five books (romances) and loved the ease of reading, etc. But that wasn't my ereader; it was borrowed. I'm still not sure if it's a Kindle I want or (now that it's on the market) a Nook, a Sony (that's what I'd borrowed). So that's why I was reading whatever I could find about them.

OK I will definitely check it out. Will we be doing a book club? Audible had a 1/2 price sale so I have several. Kate Remembered, Little Bee, In The Company of Cheerful Ladies, In An Instant, Night, Three Weeks with My Brother, The Road, Touching History, Walking with God, and In An Instant. The way my memory is getting I figure I can listen more than once. :) I still plan to get a Jefferson Co library card but it will be after the first of the year now. Thanks for turning me on to eBooks!!

Janice, Thanks so much for the Playaway info, I just checked and our library does have them. I had never heard of them. The library used to be my second home until I bought the Kindle. I'm a bit out of favor and the loop with them of late, perhaps they will welcome back into the fold. Thanks again!

Do you have a suggestiion for an audio book player? My old Creative Zen died, and it's hard to find current info for players that are good for audio books. Thanks.

    Hi Janice
Thanks for the suggestion. Play Dead was the first of this series that I read and really liked the humor. I find I don't always enjoy really intense thrillers and this was just right. Will check out Bury The Lead.
I don't have Loving Frank listed but I did read it. I got very frustrated with Mamah but that is the sign of a good writer when they make you care about the people in the novel. Looking forward to reading The Women.
Since you like Maisie Dobbs you might enjoy Duty to the Dead by Charles Todd. It is also set in the WW1 era and the main character is a nurse home on leave who finds herself involved in solving a murder.
I have a long to read list and get most of my books from the local library. I always have a stack on hand and get very nervous when my supply gets low!
    Thanks for the suggestions.
