Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve added “Change Me into Zeus’ Daughter” to my list. Oddly the library I work for doesn’t own a copy and neither does any library within our system. Fortunately the system just south of us has it and will ship it to my library. Yea!

Yes, the gap between the "haves" and "have nots" was pretty wide. Life was good if you were rich, not so nice if you weren't. I did read "Water for Elephants" Great book!! I was in the market for another book about circus life when serveral Shelfari members (including you) recommended "Devil in the White City". That happens to me all the time. I'll read a book and it makes me want to read another about the same topic. I've heard good things about "The Guernsey Literary...." It's on my "To-Read" shelf. Let me know what you think of it.

Thank you for the recommendation to read “Devil in the White City”. I enjoyed it tremendously. Made me wish I could have seen Chicago’s incredible White City. Although the descriptions of the city of Chicago near the turn of the century were horrifying. Polluted water, smoke filled skies, garbage on the streets, constant noise, disease and the reeking stockyards. No thanks!

    Stacie,
As soon as I finish a couple other books I will be starting "Devil in the White City" and will let you know what I think. I did read the first chapter just to sample it and I can't wait to get back to it.
"Marley and Me" is a fun book. You don't have to be an animal lover to like it but it does help. Although as an animal lover, it made me cry at the end.

    Stacie,
I got sidetracked with several other books after “Water for Elephants” but I did want to thank you so much for all the excellent recommendations for other books. Both books are available from my library system and I have placed holds on them. "Devil in the White City" looks very interesting. Thanks for your help!
