Jana- I am reading the new John Irving...just out. it is great. your shelf doesn't have you reading one right. now...is that right? attacking you from all directions, John
so...(looking at her shelf)...the book from in your drawers (chuckling) is that Justice one?
ok, I worked some on the project but i didn't cross reference to see if these were on your list...but i don't remember discussing them with you....and...they may be in your local library: First, it is too new but I am reading Rhino Ranch and love it so far...a lot, Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane- Kathy and both read it and suggest it and it is the next movie by Sccccoorrrsssessseesse, The Last Exit To Brooklyn by Hubert Selby jr, The Song Of Kali by Dan Simmons, The Descent by Jeff Long, The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, and The Captains and the Kings by Taylor Caldwell. Did you hear the recent news story about Dylan being picked up by the police? It's great...Google it. -John
Jana, about book suggestions, as Dylan said on the new Existential Album, "let me think for a minute, son" . I'll have to get back to you. But, Kathy has suggestions right now. She just read The Prime of Miss Jean Brody (ie?) by Murial (muriel?) Spark (s?). She said it was fantastic. It sounds like something that might be at the Hooterville library. She also suggests The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett but she said to tell you it is not a spy book like he is famous for. She said that might be your library too. I will have to see The Time Traveler's Wife sometime but it looks horrible and has that horrible actress from that horrible movie, the Notebook. I also want to see Julie and Julia. I know this sounds so gay, especially considering I just finished all 4 Twilight books, but i recently saw Mamma Mia and liked it...overall. It had some problems but Meryl Streep was impossible not to love in it. She was infectious in the most wonderful way. -John
Ms. Joad- i was looking over your shelf again. It is excellent. I see you finished that windy book...and gave a star. I just finished the last Twilight book. I am going to start Rhino Ranch (partly due to persistent peer pressure). There is no book on your Reading Now shelf. I think i mentioned this before but Angle of Repose is on your Plan To Read shelf. I....don't...suggest it. It was pretty good ...sort of...but a little heavy and humorless. I am telling everyone that will listen to me not to see The Time Traveler's Wife movie before reading the book. I haven't seen it (it opens today actually) but I have serious doubts the movie will do it justice. -John
The Road really does go on and on............Listening to Baez sing FOREVER YOUNG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=favgoOn-U1IRegards, Michael
ah....you did like Centennnnniiaall...4 stars. what did you think about the wife/mother who went crazy with the wind?
Jana- I voiced your complaints to the powers-that-be and they made it clear that the concerns of a "gentleman farmer" in Oklahoma are of no concern to them . The tone of voice they used when saying "gentleman farmer" seemed a bit sardonic....or whatever the right word is....whatever, it didn't sound respectful. If by some miracle the book I am reading now, House of Leaves, is in the Mt. Pilot library please thumb through it. Yes, that is me talking, Mr. Never Reads The Flaps. But you have to see what a publisher's nightmare this would be to print. It is supposed to be one of the most unique and terrifying novels ever written. -John
Dear Ms. Joad- Canned tumbleweeds...yumm. Nice reviews. I see Angle of Repose on your want-to-read shelf. I read that. It didn't really work for me. I liked parts of it but it is dense and wasn't worth the effort overall. But, that been said, I think it is more of a ...you...type of book. I remember it being sort of a hard times struggle thing. -Gus
you know....I am addicted to looking at people's shelves. I look mostly through people who are online now...mainly so i don't end up posting a note to someone who hasn't been on in months. One hint...people who have more friends than books on their shelf...maybe good ones to avoid. frustrating ones are ones that have a lot of books on their shelves... and good ones too....but no ratings and no favorites list. How am i supposed to know anything? I may see great books there...but maybe they hated them. These people are useless to me. I have been sick a week and am now on a 2 week staycation. ....so cafe nights are good anytime...just name a night
hey...you are online right now
you watch your mouth. (whiney) it is a very long book and keep reading before bed and falling asleep.
jana- your shelf is coming along nicely. i read your few reviews...very good. I have written a few more but still only have a few...about as many as you have. Since you like sea-farin' books the one I am reading now may work for you..The Terror by Dan Simmons. Kathy read it first and had me read it. It is excellent so far. And I want to suggest Voyage by Sterling Hayden...I may have mentioned that before -John
you still have only one friend....you poor, lonely, pathetic bastard. did you know you can re-sort how you see other people's shelves? (and yours...like by author...title...etc.
Dear Ms. Joad (if that is indeed your real name): It has come to our attention that you have been stealing books from other people's shelves. This sort of activity cannot continue. it is against our most basic policies. And, this has not been confirmed, and our investigators at looking closely into this, it has been suspected that you have been seen hauling the actual lumber other more compliant and worthy members have used to construct their bookshelves. Consequences of your actions may be extreme. We have the power to place books by Nicholas Sparks on your favorites list and make it impossible for you to remove them. We can rate them all 5 stars for all to see. It is unclear how extreme your indiscretions are at this point but we may have to actually place his, The Notebook, there. This is just a word to the wise. We are monitoring your activity. -Shelfari security division
yes...that makes sense. but...how do you locate that book out of all the books on the person's shelf without looking on each shelf one by one?
I just changed the wood on my bookshelf. It is Black Cherry now. i stole that from kathy
I wrote my first note one a book. it is short but longer than the one you first wrote. It is on The Late Child. It is on my favorite shelf
I just stole a shitload of books off your shelf
what order do you want them in. I haven't tried this yet but Kathy says the little drop down button that says date added at first has other options and to click in some kind of List button too
