I've joined the Waterhouse fans here on Shelfari. I really enjoy his pictures and will have to buy some of the prints.

Well, how can I leave when when asked so nicely to stay? Actually, I looked at the "mission statements" of Crossroads again and I do really like it, and What Are You Reading Now isn't time consuming since in theory one will only post when one starts a new book or every few days to see what the others are reading and get new ideas.

I like your avatar. I need to get one of my kids to put a cool avatar on for me.

I do enjoy the posts, that's the problem! I get a little frustrated that the Booker group wasn't active enough and now I feel like I spend more time posting than reading. I was not gifted with a lot of discipline and I have a bad case of FMS ('fraid of missin' something) so I read dozens of posts before I pick up my book! don't you have this problem?

I complain all the time, as do most readers, that are not enough hours in the day and days in the week to read all the books I want to read, then I get on shelfari and spend an hour reading posts.

I really do like the idea of Crossroads. Ok, I'll only leave Better than Starbucks.
    Thanks for caring!

I like to being able to say I have a legion of followers! I will follow you if you follow me...that was a song by Genisis when I was in high school. "I will follow you if you follow me..."

I just sent Kate a note explaining that through my Hist Fict membership I have met a number of interesting and kind people and then joined a 3 other groups: Better Than Starbucks, Crossroads and What Are You Reading. I was already a member of the Booker and Noble groups so now I am spending way too much time reading every post on every discussion thread in every group and not reading my book! I looked up the groups that you and some of the other women are most active in and it seems the common denomintor is Hist Fiction so I am excusing myself from the others and sticking with that group and then hopefully staying in touch with you and the other through notes and our shelves. I keep my shelf current and try to respond to my Notes timely.

Hi Gayle. I'm afraid I can't help. I haven't read The Dark Enquiry yet. I'll probably read it over the next few months, so will be able to chat about it then.

Yep, school's back underway, keeping me busy and cutting into my reading time. I'm taking an animal drawing and anatomy class, which is such a nice change of pace from the people, though I have one of those, too. I'm up to my ears in photos and sketches and muscle charts for horses right now. I'm not a big fan of horses, but they're pretty and they come up a lot, especially in historical stories, so they're good to know how to draw. We'll also closely study dogs, which I do love, and a project on an animal of our choosing. I'm considering an armadillo. Always thought they were adorable, and very different than a horse or dog.

So sorry to hear the Trapnel paper was scrubbed. That was a lot of work to put in for naught. The next teacher wouldn't accept the same topic? Of course, then you get to choose another subject and there are so many wonderful topics I'd love to delve further into, so it's not a bad thing completely. Any cool classes this semester?

Great to hear your husband's doing well. Congrats to you both!

Ooh, I'll have to friend Chadwick. I follow her on Twitter and enjoy her posts on random research books or artifacts. Diana Gabaldon posts daily lines from some of her books, too. That's fun. I've got to read the rest of that series soon. You've just got to love Jamie Fraser, right? Lol.

Hi there! As a new semester starts Monday for me, it reminded me I hadn't talked to you in a while. How goes your studies? Ever get that pesky Anne Trapnel paper out of the way?
Looks like you've been on quite a Georgette Hayer bent. How are you liking her? I've got one or two in my tbr stack, but haven't gotten around to trying them. I'm not sure the regency style is for me, but sooner or later I've got to try some.
I just finished Elizabeth Chadwick's Lords of the White Castle, which I loved. Kind of in that post-great-read letdown period. I don't know what I'm in the mood for next. I'll just have to see what jumps off the shelf at me, lol.
    Happy reading!

Hi Gayle, hope all is well. Seem to remember from a discussion thread that you would like to join Andrew and me in reading Elizabeth I. We are both probably going to start reading it by next weekend. How does that fit into your reading plans?

Don't know if this is going to help much! I found the Strongbow section ok, but then it dipped off more for me. It wasn't really until Silken Thomas that I feel it really started to pick up again. Possibly because of the period of history it was trying to relay and the effect this was having on Ireland was of more interest to me.
Good luck with it if you decide to read on.

Hey, I see you joined the theosophy group. I'm happy you joined. My time on shelfari has been in fits and starts during the holiday break, and I didn't have as much time to read as I thought I would. Ironic. So I only just noticed today that you joined the group.

Hello again, reading these books gives one somewhat of an insight into why and what about the monasteries. Also watching a BBC series about Henry 8th shows that at best he was a selfish man who wanted what he wanted and got it, no matter what the cost. Reading Dissolution gives one the feeling that there was a lot of wealth and they were living high off the hog as the saying goes. His wanting to marry Anne Bolyn seems to have been the driving force. She, it seems, was a reformist, not only that but Henry wanted that wealth in his own coffers. Wars are expensive things and there were a lot of wars during his reign. The one regret I have is that all thos wonderful buildings with their great windows, statues etc. were ruined, more than anything else. Evelyn S

So far the books start with Dissolution, Dark Fiore, Sovereign, then Revelation and not sure which is the next one but possibly Corruption. I am reading them in order but they couls be stand-alone books. Evelyn S
