I was raised in Florida. Live in Michigan now.
Have four kids and four grandchildren.
New authors I have read keep popping in my head.
Trouble is, I don't always remember the names of
the books. I live alone and it suits me. more »

  • The Siege
    • Rated 3 stars

Good read. All other books by White that I have read have involved Boulder Psychologist Alan Gregory and his sidekick Sam who is on the police force. In this book Sam is a protagonist along with two other characters whom I have never met. They may be new (if I missed a book or two in the series) or he introduced them in this book. The story is a somewhat different look at terrorism. The technical aspects of this book while probably possible seemed unlikely to be obtainable by a would be terrorist. I would give it three and one-half stars.

    The Hanging Garden

    by Ian Rankin
    • Rated 4 stars

This was the best Ian Rankin book that I have read so far. He writes of D.I. John Rebus, of the police in Edinburgh. This story has the usual drug and prostitution, murder and mayhem.
Could be a stand alone, but so much more enjoyable when read in sequence. Rebus is divorced but he gets around. He has one daughter and all the continuing characters evolve.
When I first started reading Rankin, going to Scotland seemed like a neat idea. Now i have a real desire to go there and hang out with D. I. Rebus and see the Firth of Forth.

  • The Defector
    • Rated 4 stars

Another winner for Daniel Silva. The Defector is extremely exciting, full of action and very fast paced. Gabriel wants to settle down, but the chase is in his blood. This time it is more than an assignment it is about vengeance, retribution and hanging on the the only thing in his life that he really cares about. This book is in effect a sequel to Moscow Rulesand the team must face an old enemy. With the end of the cold war, it would seem that lawlessness is the rule of the day and one particular oligarch would very much like to see Gabriel brought to his knees and then killed. A very good and intense read.

  • The Girl Who Played with Fire
    • Rated 5 stars

This book is even better than Dragon Tattoo. Characters become more developed as does the plot. Larsson ties everything together in such a tempting bow, reader can't wait to pull it open. This ending is more of a cliff hanger than the last. There is only one more after this and it won't be released in U.S. until June of 2010. It has been released in Australia and
England so the translation has been done.

  • Fugitive: A Novel

    Fugitive: A Novel

    by Phillip Margolin
    • Rated 3 stars

Charlie Marsh is a petty crook doing time in prison. During an act of violence he performs an heroic act. His motive might be questionable but it is a genuine act of heroism. Charlie is then thrust into the limelight where a cunning agent latches on to him. Now a rich and famous
guru- author, Charlie goes from bed to bed. (Not to sleep) When the current bed-mate's
husband is shot and killed (a United States Congressman) our boy is on the run. He winds up in Africa in a country with no extradition with the U S run by a man who worshipped at the
feet of Idi Amin. From there the story is a twisty road with several sudden turns.
Phillip Margolin offers a good read for mystery fans.

  • Coyote Waits (Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee Novels)
    • Rated 3 stars

Tony Hillerman writes of Native Americans. Mostly about Officer Jim Chee and Lt. Joe Leaphorn, both of the Navajo Tribal Police. The stories are good, but the best part is Native American lore. I have read other books about these character; plots are what you might expect, a crime and ultimate solution. The Indian Lore could be about any culture, any religion that is in my opinion. The creation of the earth, good and evil. In this case the evil is Coyote and one must always be on guard, because Coyote Waits.

  • Jerusalem Diamond
    • Rated 4 stars

Harry Hopeman is a diamond man who comes from generations of diamond men.(centuries)
He is a Jew and this story tells of the tribulations and horrors that his ancestors lived through.
The Jerusalem Diamond is a religious icon many, many centuries old. It has surfaced and the
Muslims, Catholics and Jews are all claiming ownership and want to buy it from the current
possessor. They come to Harry to meet with seller, negotiate and validate the authenticity of the stone. The tale is told in different periods of history and keeps reverting back to
the present. One can learn about diamonds and why so much of the diamond selling is done
by Jewish people. Does Harry find the stone? Who will wind up with it? I gave it 4 stars.
It is well written and has a ring of authenticity if not fact.

  • Witch Hunt
    • Rated 3 stars

Somewhat of a disappointment. When i compare this book to the John Rebus series it just doesn't hold up. This is about a master female assassin. She is a master of disguise and an accomplished escape artist. There is a world conference in London and the authorities learn that Witch is there. So who is she to assassinate? The inner actions of some of the British intelligence agencies was of somewhat interest. A couple of the agencies are competing against each other for the prize. And the chase is on. Ending tells why and how she became a killer. Sort of goofy. Another 2&1/2 stars/
