My ambition is to visit 100 countries and live in 20 of them. I'm currently in Oman, which is the 94th country I've been to. I am writing a book about my life, working my way around the world. I have loved books since I was a small child. Right now, I am serializing an offbeat thriller, set in Mongolia, on my... more »

Well Ian, I suspect that you would. It was written for young boys, I gather. It was O.K. in parts b ut as an older woman, I SAW the childlike spin on it. Bit like The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. That has the slant that makes it more a children's book and it has to be said, that many males, when asked about it, said they read it at school, and I can see why. It is not an adult female book in most ways. I just read it becasue I thought I shoulkd after reading LOTR (which also in some parts carried on a similar theme -p luckily, not too much). You say you like my long comments, yours are short!

Hoi Ian! I have yet to read THE MAN FROM ST. PETERSBURG, which I have scored just yesterday, real cheap! :D Back then, in my Shelfari, it was part of my WISH LIST. The guy from a 2nd hand bookstore informed me at once about this book since I have perpetually reminded him every time I rummage over their bookshop. I can't wait to read this one by Ken Follett. Right now I have 2 books that I read. Afterwhich, I would have to include TMFS in my next batch of reads. Oh yes, I have read and so loved THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD by le Carre!

O.k. then that is a good enough reason, though The Hobbit was not as good as LOTR in book form, for me at any rate.

Hello, I see you requested friendship with me and I wonder why as we have very few books in common. I read another shelfari member page that had the answer, because they had read all of Harry Potter books. Is that why you singled me out? I need an answer before I accept or decline

That's a short answer. Are you with Scotland Yard or something?? Hmmmm..... Maybe in the oil industry? What is the one place you want to go that you have't been to yet?? Ever been to Texas.... We're almost our own country...Tex-Mex.

How is Japan and China?? I figure you've been there.

WOW... How do you get to travel so much?? I have only been to England, Italy, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and France. I am going to China and Japan on April 1st for a couple of weeks.... I'm very excited.

I would love to live in England. I really love it there. My heritage is mostly French and Czech with a little Welsh. I still need to visit Wales and Czechoslovakia.

I was born in Michigan and never visited Canada and I live in Texas and have never been to Mexico... How strange is that?? Texas is so steeped in Mexican heritage I feel like I am almost there.

Yes . Though it is unique in its descriptive style, once I finished reading I felt only 3/4 of it indeed matters atlast to conclude on the book.I was a little lost sometimes thinking to what the story was headed to.
