“A fast moving holocaust book about a topic I was COMPLETELY unfamiliar with - Jews surviving for YEARS in the forests of Europe, creating societies with strict rules to ensure their continued survival AND planned guerrilla attacks on German forces. My biggest criticism is that the book kinda plops you into a ghetto without much fanfare about the bigger picture...which is fine if you have a working knowledge of this time period and some of the events surrounding it. Based on the non-fiction book DEFIANCE (movie of same name available) this is a really interesting book with LOTS to talk about, not the least of which is how very very much we take for granted most days! And the pace made it a good choice for boys even with the girl protagonist.”
