I am a stay at home mom of one very active toddler boy. I used to work in journalism and public relations. I enjoy reading & traveling in my free time. My love for reading was given to me by my mom, an English teacher, and by my sister, who used to make me mad because she'd rather read than play with me. My husband is a big reader, too, and I... more »

Do you mean The Maltese Falcon? It's not really that good. I read it b/c it was part of the All Siouxland Reads. I would never have picked that book. I bet the movie is better. (Never thought I'd ever say that) I do like black and white movies. You can go online to visit with the author of Tales of a Female Nomad. Our book discussion group thought Strength in What Remains and the book you recommended about being on the run in Europe for 7 years had a lot of similarities.

Hi, Melissa, how is your reading going? I read Elske and The Maltese Falcon, now reading The Warmth of Other Suns and Feed. Our reading group traveled to Cherokee, IA, to an awesome book store there called The Book Vine. I'm also reading for my bible study. The Bible is an awesome book. I'm so glad I've discovered that.

Have you read Kipling? I'm watching Masterpiece Theater and the movie is called My Boy Jack, which is about Rudyard Kipling's son. Danielle Radcliffe is playing the part of Jack and it looks funny seeing him smoke and drink. it's set during WWI. So I found my book that my sister bought me for my birthday several years ago called Rudyard Kipling a Life by Harry Ricketts. I think I might read it now.

What did you think the title meant? I think he was trying to say that we have the freedoms to be a sick society or sex fiends and that this a freedom that we use without any reference to morals. I think he also is telling us that we abuse our freedoms rather than use them for good. What do you think?

I read Leap into Darkness. It was one of the best Holocaust books I've read! Thanks for suggesting it. Do you suppose it might be a movie? I just finished The Hate List and now reading Tracy Kidder's book- Strength in what remains. - Check it out!

I ordered Leap into Darkness on the internet yesterday. Did you get a blizzard, too? I see you've started Freedom. I'd love to discuss it sometime.

I'm reading the Hobbit now in class and you would be surprised how many of your husband's college friends liked that book! :) I had a warm fuzzy on Friday when one of my students came into my room after school to deliberately tell me he was taking a book home for the first time in two years. It was a new book I bought that was recommended by a former student called Jumper. Are you familiar with it? Some said it's a movie, but the book doesn't mention anything about a movie, so it could be a different one.

The Book thief is an extremely good book! Two of my students have read it. Isn't it amazing when you read a good book, you feel like you've missed out so much. To me, books change my life every day.
