I'm single now and my two daughters are finished college and out on their own, one in Chicago and one in Rochester. I'm working Full-time in a Library. I have been making quilts for family and friends now for about 30 years and am still enjoying it. I do also make some for charities such as the Linus Project and others. And yes of course,... more »

Thank you for answering my question with more than a simple 'yes' or 'no. I appreciate it. I'll definitely keep this book in mind the next time I need something to read. The plot sounds really interesting.

    HI Charlene,

Thanks so much for your message and taking an interest in my book.

It's my debut but it's attracting a lot of interest (from TV and film companies as well).

There's a deal on at Book Depository at the moment. It's 30% off and shipping is free to the US. Cheaper than Amazon.

    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780749007072/Stop-Me

Or you can get signed copies direct from publisher by emailing chiarapriorelli@allisonandbusby

Also available, of course, from Amazon.co.uk

Would love to have some feedback from you if you do decide to read it.

    Kind regards,

    Richard

I just started reading Elantris and it seems like a good one.

I've been listening to World Without End. Sometimes I really enjoy it and then it switches to a section about Godwin & his aunt. I'm repulsed by the political maneuvering they are involved in, but like picking a scab, it's fascinating to see how it's actually done. So, I don't listen to it for very long before I have to do something else.
I enjoyed the Second Summoning, but not as much as Enchanted Emporium. I'm looking forward to checking out the new books you have on your recent activity.

Have you read Enchanted Emporium by Tanya Huff? I enjoyed it soooo much. It's my favorite of her books, so far.

I'm glad you mentioned "Elantris." I'll read it first. Our library isn't very large, but I can go online and have books sent from any library in the county to the local library. It saves a lot of time & gas. But I sometimes miss the books I would see if I browsed the library. When I search online, I only see what I search for.
Our summer won't be over until October, but at least it's not a dry one. I like thunderstorms and rain and I don't like fires ;-) Sometimes when people come to visit they're disappointed by the amount of rain we get, but since I live here, I've learned how to adjust my schedule to suit the weather. It's usually sunny in the morning and even if the sun isn't out in the afternoon, it doesn't usually rain until after 3:00. How was your summer?

I have had the recent urge to start quilting but it seems like so much is involved and I can't draw a straight line with a ruler, I don't know that i'd ever get my corners to line up!!! I love that you can do so many things with quilts though! I love your picture!

Hello, I love your Quilting picture attached to your profile! My mother quilts and works in a quilting store and my sister works in a small town library so I really love browsing your bookshelf, noting your favorites and especially your quilting books.

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't logged on for a few weeks and now I'm getting enthused about this site and reading again.

Like you, I also work part-time in a library and I have been a quilter for about 14 years. I found it interesting that although we both like mysteries, fantasy and science fiction, we have very few books in common on our book shelves. So many books, so little time! I also enjoy gardening (my summer time outdoor flower quilts) and kayaking in the backwaters of the Mississipi River. oh, yes, I almost forgot my other hobby - I play music with a group of friends - we all play recorders. My life is fulll!

Did you know Josephine Tey also wrote under the name Gordon Daviot? Have you read any of those books?

It's always been my understanding that "She who dies with the biggest stash wins." LOL I have lots and lots of fabric - I used to be a compulsive shopper, but I'm all better now ha ha. My husband was getting really annoyed until I actually started making quilts - now he loves it.

I'm reading a Josephine Tey book right now. I didn't realize she died about the same time I was born. Her writing certainly stands the test of time, doesn't it?

I've been talking to the librarian that referred me to this site. The last time I was there, I noticed she is the children's librarian and since I'm such a child myself, that must be what we have in common ha ha.

I like the idea of the quilt block swap. Yours turned out really well. The next chance I get I'll search for an online group. Thanks for the info.

I would love to work part time in a library. I have tried volunteering at our local libraries several times, but never get a response. Recently, I discovered that high school kids are required to do volunteer work in order to graduate. Apparently many of them choose to work at the library. Hmmm, I need connections - I guess I'll actually have to start talking to the librarians LOL
I started my first quilt when my youngest was born, too. It was a crazy quilt, all done by hand and kind of finished to the size of a twin bed. I gave it to my brother-in-law when he went away to college and now he doesn't remember where it is. It's ironic because he now has twin 9 year old daughters that I have been caring for since they were a week old. The twins and I work on creative projects all the time and they just finished making their first quilt (baby size, cheater fabric). He is so proud and has been telling all of us for years how special it is that I sew and teach them and what a wonderful skill it is. (Sometimes I wonder if this is to make up for the fact that he lost that first quilt LOL).
I love the picture you have posted with the mugs, cakes, muffins, etc. I've only finished 5 quilts and only have pictures of two, but I'm getting faster. I started one in January this year and will finish it this month. I just need to remember to get pix before sending it away ;-)

Hi Charlene! I'm a member of the Women of Lore group and saw you are a new member and you like mysteries. I'd like to invite you to come by and check out the "Mystery Loving Book-aholics" group if you get a chance. Many of us started with Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys too. Feel free to join up and jump into our discussions!

I also like to read quilting fiction, romantic novels (without the sex), and other mystery writers. My DD and I love mystery novels with cats, knit shops, bookstores, and twists on names. We love the Mary Daheim series of B&B mysteries and we like the Carolyn Hart mysteries set in South Caroline...also the Rita Mae Brown mysteries.
