Although I am reading page-turners right now, I like Pete Hammill's style of writing. I will try North River. I tried Bridge of Sighs but found the author went off on too many tangents to really hold my interest. I know he is a fine writer, though.
I read a book recently which was very well-written. It was entitled "Ghost" and was written by Alan Lightman. He described a state of mind very calmly that is about a subject which usually inspires fear, or disbelief. If you like his sense of humor (which is in evidence early on), the book could be for you. Can be read in one sitting.
