Miss Becerra

I am currently a sixth grade teacher at an elementary school - we have departmentalized so I teach the ELA portion which is fitting! I have been an avid, passionate reader since I was young! I remember BEGGING my parents to take me to the library and/or bookstore to stock up on my book choices for the week. One of my fondest memories from... more »

I enjoyed NERDS and know that it will be a favorites with lots of kids - but personally, I didn't love it. I think the genre was very different from what I most love. But that's ok. Rules, on the other hand, I loved! And at $1, you just can't beat the price! It definitely is talk-worthy. See you Tuesday!

    Eye Contact's description:

Like The Lovely Bones and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time , Cammie McGovern’s breakout novel is at once a hypnotic thriller and an affecting portrait of people as real as our next-door neighbors. In Eye Contact , two children vanish in the woods behind their elementary school. Hours later, nine-year-old Adam is found alive, the sole witness to his playmate’s murder. But because Adam has autism, he is a silent witness. Only his mother, Cara, can help decode his behavior for the police. As the suspense ratchets, Eye Contact becomes a heart-stopping exploration of the bond between a mother and a very special child.

I'm reading Made in the USA by Billie Letts now, author of Where the Heart Is. It's great so far!

    What are you reading now?

I LOVED Hunger Games! I got up early on Sunday (6:00) so that I could finish it! My daughter and I ran out to Costco to buy Catching Fire, which she is reading right now. I'll get to it next weekend.

When You Reach Me seems to be a quick read.
