Charlie

Hi, i'm Charles,Charlie,Chaz, Carlos, etc (and many i won't write). I'm 20, English (Gloucestershire) and naturally love books. I tend to not read for months and then go crazy and finish several a week. I was at uni recently but maths turned out to be harder than i thought (who would have thought it???), so hopefully a different course will be... more »

    Best of luck Charlie!

I'm gonna study accounting (must find a university with no maths!) but I have to wait for 4 years so that the government and my employer will pay all the fees. Once you work for 4 years the government will do that. I don't wanna end up with my diploma for my whole life.

The problem with Wells is that he's olde-English. I read The Time Machine for him and I liked it (because it was translated to Arabic) I have The War of The Worlds but it's in Olde-English so I guess I'm in a big problem =/

Talking about travelling since you love to travel.. have you visited an Arabic country? :D

Yeah, I registered to sit in on the speech (had to print out e-ticket and stuff). Looking forward to it.
I'm either going to join the Politics or Economics society. Not really sure if I could do both. :P

I wanted to complete my studies (I have a diploma) I wanted to study accounting in some university in Kuwait (considered the best university here) but the major sheet is full of math. Hard DULL math so I changed my mind =/ I know accounting is full of numbers and all that, I can take it no problem but the subject name 'math' bothers me a lot. I have a math phobia.

The other university has less and very basic-level math subjects but I don't know.. it doesn't have a good reputation nor a promising future so skip.

Good luck with the university! :D

I'm gonna read it then. I like funny science-fiction books. Which reminds me of the first science-fiction book I put my hands on, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. Have you read it? It's funny! I loved this book.

Ooh talking about the "atleast I tried" case. You reminded me of a book I've been struggling to finish for months, The Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs.
Have you read/heard of it? My God.. =/

Words can not even begin to express..

I've always wanted to go to Bath. It sounds pretty.

Teasing is a good sign of friendly affection, I suppose. I'll try not to freeze to death but I can't promise anything! ;-)
Oooh, the NATO Secretary General is coming to speak at my Uni in two weeks! I'm pretty darn excited to see the crowd reaction; a lot of people here was to demonstrate at the NATO arrival event.

Well, at least you got to see Oxford! I'm heading down there this winter break to pick up my IB certificate and visit some friends at the school. :-D

I think that if a jacket keeps you warm, nobody has the right to make fun of it! It's been getting cold here so I've been having to wear more layers. Not looking forward to December/January winters.

    Hi Charlie,

I'm curious to know what do you think of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

I'm planning to read it soon.

I think that glittery make-up and funny clothes (that I could still use outside of Halloween) are as elaborate as I'd go. Black dresses, vests, etc. Funny hats I would wear everyday if I could!
I'm the opposite with neatness because I share a room with my sister at home and trying to pick up after her would require more energy daily than I'm willing to sum up. :P

Have fun in Oxford! Btw-- is that you in your new jacket (profile pic)? If so, I love the look!

Nah, no dressing up. Just wore funny hats (much to the amusement of the other students in my building) everytime I went out. So much for all my costume planning! Really didn't think I'd be in Edinburgh for Halloween.
They love their liquor up here, yeah. I don't mind going out late but not for drinking or dancing. Just hanging out and watching movies-- something I'll eventually need to find like-minded individuals to do with!

I'm a bit neurotic with neatness but I don't like to neglect coziness either; been slowly 'decorating' my room. I live in a private student building; it's a studio so I don't really have to leave my room often. The building's full of science-student kids. They're nice enough and don't party quite as loudly as the social sciences.

Right. The Covered Market. Go down Cornmarket Street (the main one with HMV on it) and turn left after the Cornish Pasty store. You'll turn into a little alley with a Pizza Express, a cafe/pub and a Milkshake shop. To the left of Pizza Express, you will find one of the entrances into the Covered Market.

Alternatively, you can pretty much ask anybody to direct you there. :P
Try the Hot Chocolate at "Chocology". It is to die for.

I'm such a horrible tennis player. I really should practice more. :P

I've made some friends, some Asians and Malaysians. Really haven't socialized much over the weekend although this coming week society meetings start again so I can finally go to a few and join 'em.
I am both amazed and (occasionally) irritated by the number of drinkers in the Uni. While I can understand social drinking, it's still beyond me how they can go out nearly every night of the week and get wasted. It's such a waste of time and energy.

Something tells me that the friends I will make probably won't believe that I'm 20 (I look like a sixteen or seventeen year old, really).
Been cleaning up my room this weekend. Mopped the bathroom, organized the kitchen. Going to re-make the bed tonight. Wow.... I feel like such a cleaning junkie.

The problem with computerization is that whenever the servers have problems, so does everyone in the Uni. Otherwise it's fantastically convenient. :P
You've reminded me! I need to join our Uni's Film Soc too. They screen a dozen or so movies every month, so it's well worth the member's fee (£10 a term). The Sci-Fi soc gets together to watch fantasy or science fiction movies/series every week. They have a little library or good novels and DVDs too that members can borrow from. I'm hoping to find like-minded individuals there.

Aaah, I'll let you know if trekkies are involved. XD

No mandatory extra lessons but I've been advised to go to some of their optional sessions later in the term. Tutors have also been extra helpful by linking me to notes and stuff (everything is computerized here). :-)

I don't walk much in K.L. besides inside malls and parks so maybe I've never really 'felt' the crowds or the rush. Edinburgh's streets are nice and wide and give me a less crowded impression than London.
Flee to a developing nation! We're all that's left of the future! XD

Met a handful of people but I feel like it's gonna be tough making friends this year. Thinking about joining a Sci-Fi society and some other stuff.

The architecture here is gorgeous and I just love this vibe of the city. Like London but not as fast-paced and just a lot prettier. There are bookstores everywhere (yaaaay!!) and everyone is friendly. Classes started around 4 weeks ago-- I'm a late arrival! I was waiting for the too-late-to-begin-therefore-must-differ deadline but my dad just threw me on a plane here. :P

I like London for holidays but I wouldn't want to live there now that I think about it. The crowds are horrible. Uni fees here are around £ 11'000 tuition annually. It's crazy.
I have so much catching up to do; it's a good thing I've studied Economics before.

So in a hotel room on High Street Edinburgh! Getting accommodation on Monday and my eldest bro is in town with me. :-)
Yeah, I don't sleep much on flights either; I prolly got an hour of sleep in but it was pretty uncomfortable.

My parents sent me for state schooling after kindergarten; so they're spending their small fortune right now because Uni fees for international students are just crazy.
I sort of chose Edinburgh randomly. Something about being so far from family appealed to me because it was so exciting. Plus it's full of festivals and history and beautiful sights. I'm liking it so far. My other choice was a Uni in London, which I didn't get into. I don't think I'm much of a London girl. :P

So my Dad and I went over my Uni choices with me (he hates Economics because he was forced to study a little when he was my age). Anyway, he muttered something about how I'd be pretty busy for three whole years and I corrected him by saying that my degree was a masters degree-- therefore four years.

That's when he said I ought to "get it over with asap then" and I agreed, under the condition that he would at least consider letting me do a scuba course in latin america for the summer. I'm easily bought. :P

Not in Scotland yet! In London for one night, to do a little shopping (needed a new winter coat) and I'm flying to Edinburgh tomorrow morning. It was hot this afternoon and I'm exhausted right now. 12 hours flights wear me out.
