    shalimar the clown ഞാന്‍ വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ല .

I'll look for Shadow lines as I've yet to read that one, nor have I read Nostromo. But, from other novels by Conrad and Ghosh, I think they have their finger on the contrasts and conflicts of social struggle when dichotomies exist. And they certainly acknowledge man's inherant goodness and evilness, hope and despair.

Did you like Sea of Poppies? I love a good adventure story, especially when it takes me to the sea. Did you have to read Moby Dick in school? Another classical epic storytelling at its finest. Like Conrad, Melville takes one deep into the soul of man, revealing the dichotomy of good and evil that lies in is all.

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die here and join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (from the book) or you can argue the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in our discussions. The current books are at the top of the list for that month. If there is any way I can answer your questions about the group or about Shelfari, let me know.

I notice that you're reading The bastard of Istanbul, isn't it pretty good? I love the descriptions of food, and there is something sticky going on, but you just can't put your finger on it. Please let me know when you've finished it. Enjoy reading and hope to look forward to chatting with you about your impressions....--another reader of good books
