Pat Lewin

I'm an author and voracious reader.

I read both fiction and non-fiction. In fiction I read suspense, science fiction, fantasy, romance, and anything else that strikes me as interesting. I do the same with non-fiction, picking up whatever catches my eye. Plus, I read a lot of non-fiction while researching my books.

Massachusetts to Texas? That's quite a cultural change. I had a dear friend who lived in Sherman north of Dallas and I visited her several times. Where in Boston did you live? I had a rent control apartment in the Back Bay for many years until rent control was defeated. If you google YouTube Hunting the King, you'll find the trailer. You might be able to get a copy at the local library. As I'm sure you know, as an author, there is a lot of promotion with not a lot of reward. But I did manage to sign on with the oldest lit agency in the country this fall and hope that 2009 will see the publication of a second book with a larger publishing house. Peter

No, I wrote a guidebook to New Jersey. It wasn't a Moon handbook, I just noticed one on your shelf. I just joined and haven't even figured out how to get the books up there. It looks like an Excel application and I hate Excel.
Anyhow, nice meeting you. I assume you write fiction rather than non-fiction.

Pat, No, I haven't read any CJ Cherry. Is this romance, paranormal, or possibly both? I'm here to get recommendations and try to remember as many books that I have read as possible. It's slow going. Most of the books I have listed so far are the ones I read in 2008. I first read paranormal in 2008 and have really enjoyed it which was a major surprise. My favorite other world books though are Terry Goodkind's. But once I read Kim Harrison I was hooked. I write for fun and I'm working on a paranormal story, hence the total dive into every paranormal author I can find.
I will certainly look for a CJ cherry book to read. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Pat I just put a note on your author groups site. I see you have a Moon Handbooks travel book on your shelf. Do people write their own reviews here or just download the editorial review?

Dear Pat: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April. If you enjoy reading a good suspense novel, you might like HUNTING. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. Nice to meet you Pat.

We do have a lot of books in common. I've become a bit obsessive about putting my books on here for some reason...hence the large number of books on my shelf.

I noticed you've read a lot of Dennis Lehane's books. I haven't read his novels myself, but we went to school together in the MFA program at Florida International University in the 90's, so I got to read a bunch of his short stories. I did see Eastwood's Mystic River, which showed Dennis' skill in creating drama and character has really blossomed.

We studied with James W. Hall, a prolific mystery writer himself. I don't know if you've read any of his work, but he has a poet's ear for language and writes great dialogue and descriptions. As a writer, you might find him interesting. I've read most of his early work.

It was a fun time--Barbara Parker and Vicki Hendricks were also classmates who have gone on to nice careers as well.

I'm not really a mystery or thriller reader, but I do appreciate a well told story, no matter what the genre.

    Thanks for reaching out,

    Kevin
