Just read IN MY BOTHER'S SHADOW/Uwe Tmm. Raises some interesting questions about the Germans of the WWI & WWII generations as well as those raised in thier shadow - like yourself, I guess. How does your love & admiration of them jibe with thier support of two world wars & Nazi-ism? I'm lucky not to have to answer that question myself.

Guten Tag, Herr Gunter! Thanks for adding me to your list!
I've read bits and pieces of books on the Indian struggle for independance, including 'Freedom at Midnight' by Dominique Lapierre. But few talk about the role of Bose and the INA in the struggle for independence. Peter Ward Fay's book narrates the role of Bose and the INA and proves that it(Bose & the INA) tipped/forced Britain's hand in 'granting' (quotes are mine) independence to India. Bose was as important as Gandhi is winning independence for India.
Thanks for the suggestion and hope more keep coming....!

Hi Gunter, thanks for the note. I'm looking forward to checking out your book shelf. I do have a fascination in political philosophy and how it has evolved into what we see today. Looking forward to some great discussion!

Thank you for the information about your new book, and for the invitation. About the latter I am a bit uncertain if you wrote that as the only way to send a note, but if you are sure about the invitation, I shall accept.

Yes, I meant to note its German publication next spring and look forward enormously to reading both your books soon with Marion von Donhoff's "Before the Storm." Similar yet different, that's the thought that strikes me when I think of the German experience in Prussia in relation to what happened in the Ruhr.

I am deeply interested as writer and humanist in first-person accounts of the German civilian experience from 1900-1950, with special emphasis upon 1932-145, and am struck by the paucity of German accounts in English from this period. So, Gunter's books are especially welcome - they plug a hole in the narrative.
