Summer I spend on along the river, enjoying trout for breakfast .
Hiking, seeking out old silver mines treking up HappyThought Creek to sacred cascades.

Giving thanks for life's blessing way.

JARS is doing Homes in Nature for Christmas, which includes an essay called Where I Lived and What I Lived for by Henry David Thoreau and The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. Thought it would be fun and easy going for the winter holidays. Miss your posts! http://www.shelfari.com/groups/32350/discussions/303170/Homes-in-Nature---Christmas-2010

Did you pick something to read with us? Rather, did you pick a topic to read an already chosen book? We're continuing the Darwin studies, but if that doesn't interest you at all, feel free to do the Russian pairing with us for February (Crime and Punishment - fiction/ The Magical Chorus - non-fiction). Of course, feel free to back track to any of the other topics as well. I'm still plugging through The Templars book by Read because no one seemed interested at the time so I just trucked along on my own and posted other options on the site. Give me a holler back and let me know what you're thinking!

We're kinda on a YOU DECIDE sorta basis right now. The physical group has dispersed a bit, but the people still physically meeting with me now are reading Irving Stone's The Origin with Origins of Species by Charles Darwin... see the Darwin Study thread. But I have taken to posting all the various pairs that I am reading and seeing who wants to jump on what, because I am reading them all anyway. But the "official" pick is the Irving Stone novel. However, if you are more interested in the Celt and Druids or the recent Twins posting we can make an online discussion of it! Whatever you decide to do, please, bring some shelfari friends to the discussion!

I've dabbled at a lot of sites but not gotten into many very seriously. Shelfari seems a reasonable place for book-oriented people, this group in particular for writers. Also recently went on Facebook, but just getting started there. I think that as more people either self-publish or go with small presses, we have to do most of the marketing ourselves. Internet 'social' sites are one vehicle for that. When I retire and can devote more time to writing, I will have to also devote more time to book marketing Then I will probably get into more Social Networking sites, book-related forums, writers groups, etc.

My day jobs for the past 45+ years has been in computers, mostly IBM mainframes. When the PC came out, I started working with them, have been programming PCs for about 20 years. Built sites using Google Maps and related tools.

Check my bookshelf - shows the last 3 bios of Lincoln I read - one on how he got elected, one on the time between the election and the inauguration and one on his conduct of the war.

William B Weed would have been over 100 when I was born, so no, I didn't know him. His daughter was my grandmother, born 1870. She was 67 when I was born, lived to be 93 and was one of my favorite people. My second novel is based (very) loosely on her life.

That photo is my greatgrandfather - one William Branch Weed, born in 1836.
On bad days, I feel like I was also born in 1836... :-)
