“After I was 1/3 of the way in, I remembered a negative review of this, but I like it nevertheless. A Russian Jewish refugee of post WWI goes to New York, then travels across country trying to get back to her native land when she learns the daughter she thought drowned during a soldiers' blight was actually saved by a neighboring family. Her variety of professions include some racy scenes, but an honest ending made it satisfying. I also appreciated that characters met along the way had their life stories revealed in abbreviated fashion, giving closure for all the interesting people met along the way. ”
