I don't know how long it was....It often happens that I accidentally catch a movie on TV or at a friends since I dont go to movie theaters anymore. Wherever it was I started watching Smila's Sense of Snow and immediately knew it came from a book...too much detail for a screen play. I liked the first half of the movie a lot. It seems that I don't care about the endings anymore, sometimes I dont care about the endings in books either. Characters are what I love and usually they are deveoped at the beginning. So I really liked the detail about Smila's upbringing and how she camped out on the lawn because she couldn't stand the heat. And of course her relationship with the neighbor boy was nice, especially since she is naturally rude to everyone. When they interrogated smilla it was interesting how she was fine until she was threatened with confinement without a window. The man says that greenlanders can't take it "Its all that space...is that what it is? All the space?" I really like things like that which delve into the psyche of characters or cultures. Did you ever read Snowcrash? There was an Alutian in that book...and the author gave you some facts about that culture. Most of the time I can't go and read a book after seeing the movie but I think I may just read the first half of the book(Smilla's Sense of Snow) -- I didn't care for the movie ending---but the beginning is most likely terrific in the book. I'll check it out. Glad that you're from under all your writing. I'm trying to get into my first rewrite and never knew how hard it was to stay motivated. Once the book was done, I deflated like a tire and going back into it is such a chore. I'm trying to find techniques to combat my laziness when it comes to rewriting. Usually I'm good at developing coping skills but this might be a real challenge. Nina
Hello again, I see you found a Sci-Fi Romance group. I think I'll check it out. Although I write, I don't write sci-fi. I envy your imagination. It takes so much more to dream up an entire new universe. In my head I have a seed of an idea, because I do love sci-fi-, but I think it would do me in to try and create the backdrop. If I can't even figure out how my car works, how can I describe the workings of a spaceship that doesn't even exist. What have you read lately that you really liked?I just finished Under The Skin, not realizing what type of book it was. It appeared to be a serial killer type book, but it ended up a soft of sci-fi with themes I've seen before. Just thought I would stop by and see what you're up to. I'm tuckered out. Started doing rewrites. Rewrote my first chapter. Never knew it could be so hard. Since the 'first bloom' of it was long gone, it was a lot more work to do this time.Nina
Nice to see you here, Lizzie! ~Linnea
Hi Lizzie! Welcome to our group. I'm pretty happy with our current photo, but thanks for the offer.
