Daniel X

In the beginning, I was born in the Pacific Northwest in 1951.

I eventually grew-up (?) and then went to several major universities around the Country, acquired multiple degress (college credit equivalent to a Ph.D.). I've worked all across the USA, from East Coast to West Coast, so I am well travelled. And I've held jobs in... more »

(Can't find the cover of the edition I am now reading so I am assuming this is the right one!)

Great historical review of carrier history, and the planes & jets that flew on and off of them!

I particularly liked the early picture of the Civil War observation balloon "carrier"!
What a futuristic insight that must have been, way back then!

Which brings up a curious comment. As a Sci-Fi writer (and Future Planner),
what impact will these designs have on the Future? And Space Warfare?

Battlestar Galactica posited a carrier kind of spaceship, with "air" dogfights in Space. Wing Commander did bascically the same thing. So, is that how battles will be fought in the future? Or, will we return to the all big gun ship theory and produce spacebattleships?

A large part of that will probably depend on future defensive technology--for as history shows, the greater the strength of protection, the more "castles" and fortress type ships (the Star Wars Death Star) will be used. But, the better our penetrative weaponry becomes, the more carrier type vessels are used. And the balance swings back and forth throughout history, suggesting the best strategy is the development of a mixed vessel space fleet.

Good History of Air Warfare. Covers World War I Aces up to modern fighting engagements, including a good deal of info on World War II (though lacking in development of the Luftwaffe in the Spanish Civil War).

  • Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World's Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her
    • Rated 0 stars

I think that it is alsmost every boy's fantasy to grow up and own a Toy Company like Mattel!
(It was one that I certainly entertained!)

Well, here is how Mattel came into being and thrived. (Could it be copied?)

And, though there were a lot of guys involved, it seems the real story revolves around
    two women: Ruth and Barbie.

FIRST, Ruth was of a Jewish Immigrant family, and somehow caught the American Dream of Sucess, and drove Mattel (and her husband) into becoming a Toy manufacturing Giant! There is a lot of business detail here, in that story, for would be corporation executives. And worth the read, for that alone.

SECOND, there is Barbie. However, there are two of them! The first is Ruth's daughter,
Barbie, for which the doll of Mattel's fame is named. The other Barbie also appears to be
an immigrant. And, like so many Hollywood Stars, she seems to have her dark-side and
sordid past. Apparently growing up in Germany, as Bild Lili (a German teen prostitute), she
attempted to escape her whore-masters and come to America, where she got a complete
makeover into a descent, proper young lady (and model for other young girls)--including a face lift, hair job, and bust enhancement--and ALL with the help of Ruth.

And, as she seemed to ride that wave of the Dream of American Sucess, she quickly became a popular household word--and a FAT Bank account for Mattel.

However, there was a slight flaw in that Dream, as her whore-masters seem to think that
she still belonged to them--makeover and all. Apparently they hadn't gotten a clue that Prostitutes weren't the thing in America--but nice, wholesome (though well endowed)
fashionable young ladies were the rage here. (Thouh Ruth grasp this--and liberated Barbie from her white-slavery!) OR, that in American toys are often replicated and made from other, similar toys--it is just an American thing.

So, should her whore-masters still have a monopoly on Barbie (and force her back into her role as Bild Lili--and her white slavery)? Well, I am not sure that fight is over--though the
Courts seem to think that they have settled it. For, with Ruth's Family fleeing the Anti-Semetic thing in Germany, and with Barbie apparently following the same route, one can only wonder if the whore-masters' complaints aren't a veiled Anti-Semitic and Natzi thing? So, is
Barbie a Naturalized Citizen, or is she still a Jewish slavegirl to her German (Natzi?) Masters?
I think that battle will continue!

On the lighter side, I can remember when Barbie came out in the 50s. As a boy, I first saw her in that zebra-striped swimsuit, and went: HEY, THIS MIGHT BE INTERESTING! But, was quickly told to keep my hands off--it was only a girl's thing! (Yeah, and meanwhile, the girls all played with ALL the boy toys--and wore boy clothes while doing so! Yet, no one seemed to complain about that!)

In retrospect, I can only wonder that if I had been allowed to play with Barbies, that I might have my own Toy Company by now??? (And perhaps, a far better and healthier life?)

Then again, maybe I will meet a good Jewish girl, like Ruth, and have her help me get my Toy Company soon, anyway! (I would more than welcome that kind of help--just as Elliot, her husban, did!)

Consequently, I would highly recommend this book--even to guys! (The only thing that might be better would be a book on how Lionel Trains developed.)

An all too true and factual account (with tedious details) of America's "Invisible Government" and how the White House can royally screw up and mis-use and ABUSE the power entrusted to it to protect the USA--and the unsuspecting John Q Public.

This is a great work for HISTORICAL DETAIL!
And the Pictures and Artworks are outstanding--sure to be good eye candy.

Moreover, I am reading this to
find things to up-grade and revise my simulation of TYMNWOLD. Thus, making the Naval Engagements in the Game (and in
    Space) to
    be more "realistic".

Furthermore, if you are a Sci-Fi
Author, I would suggest that you at least take a look at the book--and especially so if you are considering writing about Future Battles in Space (for they are likely to be similar to some of the Battles of History, that this work contains)!

Unfortunately, all too many churches do not believe in Divorce--and those that do, make you feel like the "jerk" and dirty dog of the planet if you are divorced.

Well, Madame Joyce takes a different approach, realizing that sometimes you know what just happens (and lands on you)! So, once again, she gives us her crusty and salty "wisdom" on how to handle it (as she claims to have been through several).

Now, this is NOT an irreverant work, as she wrestles with the Scriptures,
and covers how to determine if you really do have JUST CAUSE for a Divorce or not. Moreover, there is guidance from other Passages on what to do and not do. As well as few comical tales of what happened to her, in her long life.

NOTE: This is NOT Legal Counsel nor Legal Advise (get a good attorney for that). But, if you are hurting from your Divorce (and might like a few laughs at what an air-head did), this work can be good therapy for you.

This is a different approach to marriage manuals. While most modern ones center on the woman (and how the wife can get her husband to do what she wants), this work centers on THE MAN (and how he can get his woman to do what he needs--kindly and gently)

Authored by a wise and elderly LADY (no not a pimpette) who has been married mutiple times, this narative (fictional?) details her mistakes and failures--as well as practical guidance on how to avoid them, and/or fix them.

While not a "religious" book per se, there is guidance here from what the Holy Scriptures say.

    CHALLENGING!!!

NOTE: we cannot vouch for the truth nor credibility of what Joyce writes--but it is good reading!!!

This is the LOST Culture and Civilization of the Old Cherokee Empire in Colonial America during the 1600s (the American Musketeer Era). For, the Old Cherokee were nothing like other Native Americas (and little like modern Cherokee)! Therefore, this is a piece of Americana that seriously needs to be preserved!!! And remembered.

Based on the Legend of Duo Totem (10 Commandments), these dozen or so Lessons detail a wonderous world long forgotten, and unknown to most Americans. Covering the mysterious "vision" of King Grael of the Scots (400s A.D.) for a LAND in the Atlantic, to the Viking voyages and colony in Vinland that founded the Old Cherokee Nation in about 1200s (thus we have someting of a WHITE "Indians" Tribe, as the Old Cherokee tend to be lighter skinned, with predominent blue eyes, and natural blondes here and there), to THE Empire in the 1600s that covered most of Eastern America (dominating many other Tribes), all the way to their MYSTERIOUS FUTURE with its association to the Pleades and the Coming HOMELAND IN SPACE--this work covers the scene of what the Old Cherokee are all about.

This includes details of what their J.C.M. Theology (Jewish-Christian-Muslim) held--including its obvious "Hebrew" or Jewish orientation, with Bible Stories from the Creation to the Flood and many other Old Testament tales. (Much in a Way like Martin Luther's Cachecsm does Protestant Beliefs.)
