No problem :) I have those same delays in replying sometimes. Yes, the riots are very much on the news and in the papers. Some of it is more in my area and I have seen some evidence of the effect, but most has been contained in the retail areas. I'm being good and making sure I'm home earlier than usual!

Thanks as always for the suggestion. I'll let you know if I read some of his work, although right now I'm reading way too many books at once! I need to actually finish some before I start new authors!

Thank you! Always appreciate a good recommendation. I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and LOVED it. If you find a copy, I totally recommend it. Mom read it as well and really enjoyed it too.

Just a quick note... for your father-in-law, try the Last Gunfighter series by William W. Johnstone.
Good story line... lots of action... minimum of foul language. I like 'em.
I agree w/ you about Dekker's writing. I read The House, which he wrote with Frank Peretti. AWFUL!!! I skipped major sections, just to get to the end. TERRIBLY dark.
    You'll like the Circle Trilogy.

I just noticed on your bookshelf that you read Nine Marks of a Healthy Church. I'd recommend the others, that I mentioned in the previous note, as well.
Pam read Same Kind of Different as Me. She also thought it was excellent... difficult and tearful to read... but, excellent.
Also... I am a Ted Dekker fan. I recommend his Circle Trilogy - Black, Red, and White. Didn't see it on your shelf.
Ever read any Louis Lamour? Maybe they have more of a male appeal? ;-)
I listen to recorded books (usually CDs) traveling between Parker and Golden. I come up here 3-4 days a week. Lots of windshield time! Most of my reading hard-copy books has to do with ministry topics - the church, leadership, structure, discipleship, etc.
So many books... so little time! lol

How in the world did you hear about CHBC in little ol' Walsenburg? ;-)
I remember that your church is between pastors. Wish that I had been free to help you in the interim. I expect to be here at FBC, Golden until the Fall. They could have a permanent pastor by then.
Which Dever books have you read? Deliberate Church? Nine Marks of a Healthy Church? Polity?
Wish I could recommend a good, practical book to you that would really help in identifying the "best match" for your next pastor.
Are you serving on the Pastoral Search Team? Now THAT's fun!!!

Just noticed that you're reading "Biblical Theology in the Life of the Church" by Michael Lawrence. Have you read anything else from Capitol Hill Baptist... or IX Marks Ministries? I went to a weekend seminar at that church a few years ago. Pretty amazing. Michael Lawrence is a tremendous Pastor... insightful, caring, powerfully practical preacher. Love to know what you think.
