My shelf basically consists of 3 genres: fantasy, science fiction, and teen fiction. I like fiction in general though. I enjoy reading, knitting, playing the Sims, golfing and hanging out with my friends. :)

Lol, I do the same thing. I remember once in middle school cracking up because all the "so then"s and "therefore"s actually counted, even though I'm pretty sure my English teacher knew I did it to fill up the space.

A Tale of Two Cities, huh? Dickens is a really great storyteller, but sometimes he drags on and on. It makes sense, since he was paid by the word (or something like that), so the more words there were, the more he got paid.

Well, I think from their perspective they're not losing money, they're saving it. Why import what you can get here? And if they choose to publish and American instead of a foreign author, they can then shop out those rights to countries that will publish it, instead of paying money to publish someone else's, and having to pay a translator and whatnot. It makes them only willing to buy foreign rights when they're pretty sure it's a sure success - if the author is a megabestseller already, or critically acclaimed, if they've won a big international prize for their work. Stuff like that. Otherwise whatever. I still don't agree with it, because I am personally attempting to read every book in the world, but since it's worked for them in the past and is continuing to work in the present - I don't see that it's going to change anytime soon. I'm just glad I've gotten to read awesome translated works like Prophecy of the Stones.

Yeah, it was written by this 15-year-old french girl. And, yeah, it's pretty stupid and egotistical to consistently not buy foreign book rights. It angers me because I just know that there are awesome books out there I'll never be able to read.

Lol, yeah. Well, I used to own it, but I donated it to the Longmont Public Library a while ago, since they didn't have it (can you believe it?!), so I'll take any chance to read it. It's kind of hard to find, I suppose since it's a french translation, and american publishers usually don't buy foreign books rights or spend much time on them.

Dude, I LOVE The Prophecy of the Stones. It's one of my favorite books ever, and you know that's saying a lot, since I absolutely dread naming my favorite books. Anyways, amazing book, read it, bow to its glory, etc.

If you're still looking for good supernatural/vampire/romance, then try Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast. I just recently finished it, and it was awesome. What have you read lately?

Beauty is a retelling of the original Beauty and the Beast folktale. It's fantastic, and the heroine is real and wonderful. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll stop talking, but it's one of my favorite books ever. It's one I read again and again.
I've read most of the Shopaholic series, except to most recent, Shopaholic & Baby. I liked it - the writing is good and fun, even though Becky gets on my nerves a bit. But I like that Becky is such a real person to me that when she messes up I want to smack her upside the head and tell her to do better. I think that's the mark of a decent writer.
I don't really think much of genre division. I'll read anything once, only exceptions being self-help and gossip-y high school lip gloss books. Though, even the gossip books I'll read if I think the writing is good, the characters are realistic, and the story is intriguing. That actually sums up my criteria for pretty much everything I read. So I guess, just read what you like.
I liked The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause, though not as much as her later book Blood and Chocolate. You can see her growth as a writer and storyteller by reading both of them. Blood and Chocolate is another one I've read multiple times. I'm looking forward to reading her latest novel (I think) Freaks.
The Silver Kiss is vampire romance, but not really like Twilight, I don't think. For one, it's somewhat more depressing. Also, the writing is different, both in style and pace. But I did enjoy reading it, and the ending was pretty decent.
I just finished reading I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak, and another of his books, The Book Thief. I liked I Am the Messenger, mostly because of it's message, and Zusak really made me root for Ed, the protagonist. But The Book Thief. The Book Thief is a masterpiece. The pace is a tad slow, but it fits the story exactly, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The Book Thief is another one that I really want to recommend and gush about, but I'm afraid I'll spoil it for you if I keep talking. Suffice it to say, it made me cry, and laugh, and I am so going to end up buying it.
I also recently read Rider and Mystic by Sharon Shinn. It's got everything I love, and the writing is superb. There's a real romance - you can see it building and building between two realistic and wonderful characters, and it is wholly satisfying. It's not a 'one look and I was in love' deal. It's real, and infinitely more romantic because of it. And that's just one element. There's the adventure, with other compelling and realist characters who you just want to sit and talk with someday. The entire story is wonderful. If you're looking into adventure fantasy, I think this might just be one of the best choices to start out with.
Right now I'm starting Skin Hunger by Kathleen Duey - A Resurrection of Magic Book One. I've heard good things about it, most notably from Nancy Farmer and Holly Black, two of my favorite authors. I'm interested in what I already know of the story and characters, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
If you want a more general recommendation for fantasy, paranormal, or romance, to get you started or anything, there's a few I could think of. :)

Haha, I only steal them because they're good. And yes, I suppose we are even now. Oh, I've read lots. I really like Robin McKinley's stuff, especially her book Beauty. There's tons of others, but it would take too long to name them. Any recommendations you're looking for specifically? Like realistic or fantasy or romance?

If you can't find it in Borders or Barnes & Noble, or your local independant bookseller, there's always Amazon. (Amazon: Fountain of Awesome)

Ack! No hits, no hits! See, this is why I tease you when I'm safely thousands of miles away. It's better for my health. :D

Haha, I just want you to be prepared for when Edward nobly sacrifices his life to save his wife and child. :D (I kid, I kid, please don't hit me.)

Haha, I almost forgot about the Dear Dumb Diary series! I love it, and I'm glad you reminded me (though inadvertently). It's so hilarious. Have you finished Breaking Dawn yet? Have you gotten to the part where Edward dies? ;)
