Thanks for the update. I was worried that I had missed some of your progress notes somewhere along the line.

    G'mornin!

Hows the work coming along with these books you claimed as part of the Science Fiction Clean-up Team? Can I help?

In order to give myself the best possible chances to complete NaNo, I deliberately picked a really simple story -- generic setting, a cast of characters that I could number on one hand, and a pretty simple plot. Of course, that lasted all of the first five minutes. . . but what ended up coming out of that simplicity was a structure that was more like four sequential novelettes. I never write short fiction, so all of my writing up until this point has been beginnings, but given the structure of my NaNo novel, I found myself writing a climax at page 15, and discovered that climaxes are HARD. (For me at least.) I got bogged down, spent hours staring at the cursor, writing a couple words then deleting them, and finally decided to get a little distance before going back. That little distance turned into a lot of distance when I started prepping for hosting my very first Thanksgiving dinner (BIG feast day here in the U.S. if you didn't know) and suddenly I discovered it was the end of the month. :( But. . . at least I got a little experience with writing a climax, and I am planning on going back and finishing that segment. Don't know if I'll finish the whole thing (because I picked such a simple story, it doesn't interest me as much as my other writing) but I can't let myself give up on that scene.

It was also pretty thrilling to have one really good day where I wrote 2300 words. . . I've never written that much in a sitting before, so I'm glad I did NaNo just for that.

Good luck on your editing. . . given that I've never written a climax before, I clearly also haven't even attempted working on a second draft, but I can imagine it would be a VERY different experience. :)

NaNo was an epic failure. . . I got to 5300 words, and I gave up on even trying to write every day by halfway through the month. However. . . in another way it wasn't entirely a failure, because I tried out a different sort of structure for my story in the hopes of making things easier and ended up running into a wall I've never run into before. Which doesn't actually sound positive when I put it that way, but it was. :) How did it go for you?

Hey, thanks for coming to my defense against Nee on the group board. . . I usually try to ignore him (because he always seems to be saying something inflammatory) but I felt like I had to say something about his Bujold post. Glad to feel someone else was with me!

LOL, it didn't occur to me to check where people were before sending out my "good luck" note. . .

Definitely at least post a link to your reviews if you've particularly loved a book, I'm sure I (and others) will enjoying seeing your progress that way.

My reading is going to be slow the first month (I'm taking part in NaNoWriMo) but I'm hoping I won't get TOO far behind everyone else! :)

It's Nov. 1st. . . good luck with your challenge! Don't forget to leave any books you've loved in the Suggestions thread (and add them to the group shelf) so others can benefit from your experience! :)
