I was just looking at my next read, The Upright Piano Player, and saw the random users on the sidebar, and clicked on your picture there, thinking it was 2 dogs ( I have such a picture myself), but see it is cats. But then I saw your shelf and we 19 "alike" books. So I may be choosing to "borrow" from your shelf soon! We share a lot of the same tastes. First time I have connected like this - looking forward to reading them.

Hi Cynthia, I'm Ema, also from the UK and I have just started up a group on Shelfari, but for UK members. I noticed how difficult it was to search for UK users on here and thought it would be pretty cool to have most of the UK members in one place :)
If you're interested the link is: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/49405/about

Hope to see you there xx

    New Year
    by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

    MORTAL:
    "The night is cold, the hour is late, the world is bleak and drear;
Who is it knocking at my door?"

    THE NEW YEAR:
    "I am Good Cheer."

    MORTAL:
"Your voice is strange; I know you not; in shadows dark I grope.
    What seek you here?"

    THE NEW YEAR:
"Friend, let me in; my name is Hope."

    MORTAL:
"And mine is Failure; you but mock the life you seek to bless. Pass on."

    THE NEW YEAR:
"Nay, open wide the door; I am Success."

    MORTAL:
"But I am ill and spent with pain; too late has come your wealth. I cannot use it."

    THE NEW YEAR:
"Listen, friend; I am Good Health."

    MORTAL:
"Now, wide I fling my door. Come in, and your fair statements prove."

    THE NEW YEAR:
"But you must open, too, your heart, for I am Love."

How did you get on with Fiennes' THE MUSIC ROOM? I can recognise his style from SNOW GEESE - so slowed own and contemplative...........
