Filipslady

I am an avid reader who likes many different genres and does not believe in restricting ones literary horizons. If I haven't read from a specific genre or author I am open to doing so. Therefore, I love suggestions on good authors and books.

I enjoy both fiction and nonfiction. I do read more fiction because that is my choice for night... more »

Filipslady, Hi, just wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you and your family have a great holiday.

I see that you read Vendetta by Fern Michaeals. I really like that Sisterhood series. I just read the latest one. Vanishing Act.

I am reading some romances and some mysteries.

    Talk to you soon.

Just a quickie I have picked 2 tomatoes, fallern into a few more (I fell in the garden-tripped over something I think), then found my pumkin has been eaten into by slugs or snaiils and it was getting a good size though not huge. Disappointed.
It is late now so will write again soon.

That sounds really nice. I know how hard it can be for those in a nursing home. I worked for six months at a nursing home. It also happened to be one that my mom for at for over a year. I would read to her from her Bible and from a little quarterly book she got from her church. She always liked that. We also prayed a lot. I am glad that your mom loves to read and is able to read. Keep doing it for as long as you can. Reading is good for your brain.

It sounds that this summer has been very busy for you! The rewriting part sounds, no hard but difficult. I sometimes find when I am reading or writing I see myself as the character. You see the 'Twilight saga' is my favorite collection of books, and while I began reading them I see myself in every possible situation, seeing how I could change the story to be less frustrating or hard. But even though if I really were a character and changed those parts it would somehow change the story all together. So while you are rewriting these books in your you should think of every possibility that could change the story, for example when Juliet acts dead and Romeo really does kill himself you should have him go through a hard time until goes mad and when he finds that Juliet is alive he believes he has died and is now meeting Juliet under the grave or something like that. I hope I have helped with that assignment and made maybe a slight more easy.
My summer has been well. For school I have to pick four books to read from a list and write nine paragraph's on each one. Not too bad. But otherwise I have been having loads of fun. Hope to speak to you soon!

    Heyy,
I haven't been able to log onto Shelfari for a very long time which I am terribly sorry about. They said that I had to turn something on to be able to log in, but I have been keeping up to date by reading my e-mails about what is going on around Shelfari. I am sorry it has taken me so long! Hope you are having a great summer still!

    Heyy,
Yeah, summer is always the time to get all that fun and duties into your time. It is also nice to hear from you. It is a shame you didn't get any peices into the contest because it does seem you know what you are doing. Just never give up because if you ever decide writing just can't fit into your life you will regret giving it up later. A wise man once told me, well my dad anyway, "Today is what you plan on doing, but tomorrow that will be your history." Yeah I know how you feel with all the demands on your 'need to do list.' Trust me, I am getting to the age where my parents can trust me to babysit for a while and i have no doubt they will be using that advantage soon- I got two little sisters- but don't worry I won't be doing it for a high price. I know you like fiction and nonfiction, so perhaps you are writing with one of the two genres? Don't worry you will get the assignment done, trust me. This whole school year my class was supposed to take a book each month and write an 8 paragraph essay on the book with the genre my literature teacher picked out. I always left it to the last minute, because to me writing reports on books is just plain old boring,ZzZzZzZzZz, but I always would read the book weeks ahead. I haven't written any more on my story lately, it seemed like a good idea at first but the whole idea of the story seemed like it could have been taken out of a ghost story. My idea was to take the little girl that 'fell and never awoke' to watch out for other children. But as I thought on, the story just seemed to plop to the back of my head because of everything else. As you can see on my page I like to do sports, and they all just got over whelming. I had softball playoffs and it seemed major for me to do my best because it was my first year playing that particular sport and it was cancled out because it has been raining so often, but the rainy curse has been lifted! But we ended up losing because we are not the best team. Also my parents joined our family into a club kind of thing and it has a swim team that one of my sisters' and I joined and it is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and at the end of the day you feel whiped, because my family and I play outside all day all afterthe practice! It wasn't just sports though it was also school! We had all Final Exams for the end of the year, and don't get me wrong I have always been bad at science but I almost failed the Exam! Thank goodness my teacher gave me extra time for the Exam because she sent me on an errand during the middle of the test and I told her that was why I almost failed. So I ended up getting a 80, but I would have gotten a 72! UGH! But otherwise since all the other sports ended besides swimming and school has taken a hault, at least for a while, i feel everything has slown down at least a bit. Summer has been great. I went to Long Beach yesterday and I got the worst burn on my nose! OW! But it was so much fun! My sister's and I were jumping in the waves like we were buff and stronger then them. My friend was also there with her family and we dug up a whole bunch of sand crabs! It was great! How has your summer been? i hope you are having a great time, chilling, even while you babysitting, and having a fun filled couple of months in the sun! Sorry for such a ong message, it has just been great chatting with you even if it's only one conversation a day. Have fun!

There probably isn't a difference in subject matter, just different styles of writing. We loved the Bridget Jones Diaries (singleton in London - but you probably know the films). Maeve Binchy is an Irish author who is very popular. We still love our Jane Austens, even if a lot of people just watch dramatisations on TV. Adrian Mole's Diary was hilarious (a bit dated now). Christopher Brookmyre writes great thrillers with a comic element (very Scottish). The Agatha Raisin detective series is good too and very English.

Thanks so much for thinking of me and taking the time to make that list. I've only heard of a couple of the authors so there is lots for me to investigate. I've read Agatha Christie but not Postern of Fate. Most of the authors you suggest don't seem to be well known here in the UK so I probably wouldn't have heard of them otherwise.

    All the best, Anne

Out of all the categories I think I might pick the Genre Short Story, if I were to enter the contest. I have written many short stories that i am very proud of considering I wrote them three years ago. Anyway thank you for your help once again!

Thank you so much! You have really been a true encouragement for me! o see what you mean when you are working on the story without actually writing it. i do that a lot too. At night i often think about ways to help me story build up to where I want it to be. Thank you for the information on the contest too! You have really been a huge help! Thank you once again!
