I've loved to read since I was a little girl. I go through periods of finding time to read and just not making the time. I used to read more but life's been busy lately with kids' activities and home repair projects and I've been watching too much TV.
When I do read, I mostly stick to fiction, especially classics and historical fiction/romance, but I've been known to read mysteries, westerns, fantasy and sci-fi too. I also enjoy a good biography if it's written in novel style. I do read other non-fiction but it tends to take a lot longer to get through it for me. I also love poetry!
I feel sad for people who don't know the pleasure of books. I love they way they look and smell and feel and the peace of curling up with a good book on a chilly afternoon, with a cup of hot tea and a warm blanket (with my cat sleeping on top).
John Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors, though I'm not keen on every one of his books and I still have to read a couple. I love how simple his words are yet how beautifiully he makes them sound when he puts them together. Jane Austen is another favorite and I can read her novels over and over and never grow tired of them. If I had to list my favorite novels, they would include: All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, A Town Like Alice by Neville Shute and the Windsong Trilogy by Francine Rivers.
