Trying to read more books of substance as well as light stuff to relieve stress at the end of a trying day. I'm always on the prowl for good finds at the library, secondhand bookstore and bargain shelves! While I don't judge a book by its length, I find tags such as "huge" "quick read" and "very short" helpful when trying to determine the...more »

Yeah, I don't know if I'll ever get caught up! My idea of getting caught up is finishing the 5 books I'm reading before I start another one. However, I messed that up last week! At least I was able to finish the newest book in a few days. So now I'm back to the 5.

Good to hear from you, Bonita. I'll be interested how you like your current read!ing of Rebecca and Uncle Tom's Cabin. I've never read the latter, but I have a copy on my shelf. I just finished "The Historian" and started "Dracula" immediately afterward. I must say I'm surprised how fun it is to read Stoker's book after reading some pretty disparaging things about it by book critics! It's a real page turner!

I'll check out the group you mentioned. Thanks for thinking of me!

Sorry, you left me a message about "KIA" several months ago. I haven't been on this site in awhile. Not sure why because I am reading all the time. I read a ton of mysteries, contemporary literature, some nonfiction. How about you? I liked "KIA" if for no other reason than he didn't add some gratuitous romance, as so often happens in mystery novels.

Do you read a lot of mysteries? I am new to the genre, but pretty hooked at the moment. Who do you recommend?

Can't believe you actually got through "Breast"! I picked it up in Barnes and Nobel, read a few pages and said "UGH!" Congratulations!

I just started Carol Shield's "Unless" a few days ago and can't decide if I like it or not. I see it is on your wish list. Have you read anything else by this author? I haven't, and I'm trying not to read pretentiousness between the lines of her writing....Reminds of of Joan Didion in "The Year of Magical Thinking". I liked that book, however...Maybe I'll end up liking this one too...Dunno....

Greeting! Thanks for adding me as a Shelfari friend. I found you through the section on the Home page where it notes people having similar books in common (we have 107 in common!). I figured I could glean much from hearing what you are reading, and what you've enjoyed reading, since we have so many work of fiction in common! Best wishes, Scott

Wow, that must have been a lot of work to add the 1001 books, but handy! Out of curiosity which ones could you not find? I have Adjunct: An Undigest and Day Off at home but couldn't add those to my shelf. (I hope the administrators of the site fix this glitch!)

    Hi, Bonita.
I am rereading "Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)" by Jerome K. Jerome.
Three late 19th century guys go on a boating trip on the Thames and many things go wrong in a humorous way.
After that I will probably reread "To Say Nothing of the Dog" by Connie Willis.
This one is a hilarious time-travel book where the protagonist goes to the 19th century England. Part of the story includes a boat trip that parallels the one in "Three Men in a Boat".

Hey Bonita. I noted that you listed John Dos Passos book USA as "not found" (from the 1001 books you must read before you die list). Actually, that is the name of the trilogy. The books are titled: The 42nd Parallel, 1919 and Big Money. I've read two of the three -- great US historical fiction!
