Hi Jan, Thanks for letting me know about your change in e-mail. To be honest I haven't written a note to anyone or a review in awhile. Lazy I guess.
I've been reading up a storm this summer. I just finished Nicholas Spark's The Wedding (enjoyable), Carl Hiaasen's Nature Girl (ok), We Are Not Alone (heartbraking-about the deathe of 3 freedom riders during the 60's and the attempt to segregate the south) by Seth Cagin and Philip Dray and BOOM by Tom Brokaw (a terrific and informative read--his and other boomers view of the 60's). What have you read recently?
    Hope you're enjoying the summer.

You know, I read Redeeming Love first. And I posted on the Christian group that I really was not enjoying it.....folks encouraged me to continue and I did. I gave it a 3/5. Then I picked up The Last Sin Eater. Again, Ok. Then I started the Mark of the Lion series set in Rome during early Christianity. It was WONDERFUL. So I guess it is like many authors.....different favorites for different people. Thanks for thinking of me with the recommendation!

    Hi Jan,
I don't think I have sent you a private note. Wondering how many other people have experienced the same thing you have? I have received emails from Shelfari on my yahoo account, but rarely get anything private anyway.

I see that you read Made in the USA and since you rated it so high, I added it to my ever lengthening TBR stack.

I am reading Alaska by Mitchner. Going on a cruise there next month. His books always get me interested in the history of the area. He is such a great writer, but I wish they weren't so long. Keeps me from reading other things. I am also listening to a John Dunning book on audio at the gym. He writes about a cop turned bookseller, who is always solving crimes around rare books. I enjoyed the first book I read by him. Additionally, I am reading some novellas about people of the Old Testament by Francene Rivers that I am really enjoying. Have read one on Aaron, Ruth and Rahab. They are short and really do stick to scripture. Reading Bathsheba next.

It is hot and sticky here in south GA! We are truly in the dog days of summer. But I have some vacations coming up in the next two months. And lots of travel for work. So the time will fly, as usual.

Hope you have a peaceful day

Hi Jan! I sure do hope the new email works for you on Shelfari -- if not, I would contact customer service (which I am sure you will LOL) Want me to send another private message? I'll be happy to help any way I can!

I just finished Peony in Love and am reading The Gatfen of Last Days --- it's pretty good. What about you?

Hello Jan! Thanks for the msg. Im reading Lust for Life by Irving Stone right now, i really appreciate knowling the life-story of one of my favorite artists (Van Gogh). It pains me knowing he suffered so much while struggling to make a name as an artist, never reaping the fruits of his labor. Im 100 pages to go in an almost 500 pages book. What are you reading right now?

Hi Jan, Good to hear from you. You have listed three books I really want to read. I am on the library waitlist for Billie Lett's book but I want to read Toni McGee Causey's Bobby Faye's books. I haven't even gotten to read Very Bad Day yet (my library doesn't carry them) and I want to read Bewitched Forever. I am currently reading Chasing Harry Winston and have on my "to read" stack- Strange As The Weather Has Been, The Book of Air and Shadows, The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death, Child 44, Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea, Infected and The Blue Star. (LOL and some others) I also just received a copy of The Lace Reader and really want to get to that one soon. Again I am in over my head!

You're welcome. I normally read 2-3 books at a time. And since June, I'll be reading a book a day (or two or three). If I can get a book done early, I'll pick up where I left off in another.

I'm so sorry it didn't work --- I can't imagine what the problem is : ( I would definitely write the Shelfari people. I have done that before about another issue and they were very prompt answering me! Let me know if I can do anything else!!

Sure Jan, I will put your name in for the drawing. Good luck :D I may be having more giveaways in the future so just to let you know you don't have to be a member to leave a comment. Glad you enjoyed Garden Spells. I plan on reading Sugar Queen after I finish my book club book- Big Stone Gap. I know I have read that one a long time ago but my memory is bad so it seems like a whole new book again, LOL.

I went to bn.com to read other remarks -- here was one that kind of says it all

    " I EXPECTED MORE.

After my tryst with Garden Spells, I had high hopes for this book as well. It was a bit predictable and teenager friendly (childish). But, I will read her next book to see if it lives up to Garden Spells.

Of course we can't all like the same things --- so you might like it? What are you reading?

Hi Jan, Glad to hear from you! I saw I posted about Girls in Trucks earlier. Yuck, wasn't my favorite. But since I have read Mudbound by Hillary Jordan (southern fiction). It was really good. And Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen (southern fiction)- Loved that one (I now have her second book waiting on my shelf -The Sugar Queen). I just finished The Usual Rules by Joyce Maynard and couldn't put it down, I liked it a lot but it may not be for everyone. It's a coming-of-age story and pretty sad (about a girl who lost her mother on 9/11). I couldnt have read that a few years ago. I am looking forward to some humor now and getting ready to read somethig by Jen Lancaster. Either Bright Lights, Big A** or Such A Pretty Fat. I loved her first book- Bitter is the New Black. (I can't believe it!! I had to use *'s because Shelfari just censored the title of that book!! :(
