Hello i love to read, write, and photograph things. :]

I love...
-the dead of winter. When it's really cold outside and the whole family just stays bundled up, next to the fireplace, and drinks hot cocoa. Then afterwards, one by one everyone jumps into the jacuzzi.
-the beach. the sand in between your toes and the sun lightly... more »

I see you have one of your favorite books listed as "The Girls". I've been planning on downloading that onto my Kindle for my next read. I like the author. I read another of her books and loved it. Can't remember the name of it.

Hi Beth, Sorry. I just now noticed you posted here. Anyhow, good question. It seems like my favorite genre changes depending on my mood. Lately ( the past few months ) I can't seem to get into any fiction. So I've mostly been sticking to memoirs or true crime books. Right now I've got 2 books going. One is a true crime about Jeffery Dahmer & I don't know why I am reading it, cuz we all know what happens & it is sad. The other book I am reading is called "Fifty Acres and a Poodle" which I am enjoying because it is quite enjoyable read. ( a memoir ) K.. well I am gonna go check out your shelf. By the way, I am in the cleveland area too.

    Thank you.
My family no longer lives in Somalia but I do have some relatives still there. Despite it being a "war zone" some people consider it to be safe. A lot of Somalis from the west go back there for the summer. It just depends on which part you visit and who you are.

Sorry for the delayed reply...been busy.

I see that you and I have somethings in common: travel, people and writing.
Well, my family is from East Africa (Somalia).
My opinions on the American sterotype that all Muslims are 'terrorist" is really sad and sickening. I know that not all Americans are ignorant and racist ( Afterall, I do live in Canada) but there are some extremely idiotic, uneducated American that do run their mouths without having facts to back them. Those are the ones i truly feel for. It's actually quite fun visiting tha states and then bumping into them and having the usuall public debate on politics and history...right out the window goes their predisposed notions on Muslim women and Muslims in general...Am sad to say, but some still leave with the same notions in mind.
The thing is, not all American really think like that. I noticed that its usually to old folks that are reluctant to change and tolerance. And it usually depends on which part of the States u visit....
    Hope that helped.

I know you weren't being disrespectful. I'm also fascinated with other cultures and such.
To be frank actually, the term 'islamic culture' is a VERY broad meaning. Like me and others, some don't agree with the term because it's very diverse. Mainly becus it's hard to seperate culture and religion. The Islamic religion isn't a religon but a way of life hence becoming a culture, since everything we do is accordence with the Quran. The term "islamic CUlture" is wrong becus muslims are found through out the world and have different dress stules, different foods, music, languages, arts, and history. My culture is different than that of a muslim living in China or Spain, or India.
Im guessing you have in mind the Arabia culture since that is the most popular Muslim Culture...Oh yes, there is also a difference in the terms "muslim" ( Believers of Islam) and "Islam" (THe religion itself)
I hope that somewhat helped....Feel free to ask anything you like :)

I think you will be surprised when you read them, Brittany. I do have people battling real issues. I just use humor, as we always do in the south. Book one revolves around a brutal hate crime against a homosexual man. Book two takes on the effects of childhood abuse. Book three--not published yet--has a breast cancer patient as the main character.

    So...

Modern themes. Heavy themes. But, handled with more of a gentle touch.

Hi, Brittany. Thanks for the note! I have blurbs and a lot of information about both of my novels on my website...www.rhettdevane.com
Both are available online with amazon. I would love it if you read them. If you do, please let me know what you think.

Currently, I am represented by a literary agent who is pitching books three and four to publishers. Plus, I had the pleasure of cowriting recently, and that book is being considered by my agent, too.

Again....thanks. Based on feedback, I think you will enjoy my novels. I like to write about current themes, but without so much heavy negativity.

    My best to you,

    Rhett

I'm sorry ! I am horrible at correspondence. . . especially since I've been so caught up in reading the latest Stephanie Meyer book, Breaking Dawn. I just finished it tonight! Before that, I was reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I had previously read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (her sister) and wanted to make a comparison. Thanks you for the lovely compliment! I have been working in a library for a few years, so it's a real advantage in sorting out the good from the bad. Even picking around a bit, it's free ;)

I see you're a Twilight reader! They're irresistable, aren't they? I also see you've read The Perks of Being a Wallflower: excellent book. Also, Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry was one of my favorites growing up. Is J.D. Salinger's Freddy and Zooey any good? I've wanted to read that. . . hmmm...

Hope you are having a great time. Breaking Dawn is AMAZING I hope you are getting a copy!
