Okay Papa, I'll start working on that list as soon as possible! We have Puddn'head Wilson at home, so that'll be my first book checked off. I really want to read The Fault in Our Stars, but we can't find it anywhere unless it's in hardback! Maybe you could lend me your copy...
Okay, so, Papa, that list of 10 books you gave me to read: I have already read/am reading 6 of them. I read Good Morning, Miss Dove last summer, and the Human Comedy last year. You know I already read The Hobbit, and have read the first two books in the Lord of the Rings series as well. Finished The Yearling too, check, check (!) and I am currently reading Tom Sawyer/ Huckleberry Finn. I need you to recommend a few more, Papa!!
I just looked at your message from about 3 months ago and saw the list of ten books I should read this summer. I have already read the Hobbit and really liked it. I want to see the movie that's coming out, but I'm a little nervous it will be kind of scary (especially with Gollum!). We're (me, mommy, and Ryann) planning on reading the Yearling together over fall break. Maybe we could Skype you and all of us could read it together. Would you like that? Any hints on my birthday book (she asks hopefully)?
Finally finished a Dance of Dragons today. I cannot believe he killed Jon Snow (or did he?!). Gee, only two years until the potential release of the next book in the series now- if he doesn't get writer's block again. This is worse than waiting on David Eddings you know!
The girls are doing a lot of Mommy/daughter reading time this summer. Ryann is on the Goblet of Fire and completely caught up by the Harry Potter series finally- we read aloud every day and then watch the movie when she finishes a book as a family. Mariah wants to read Little Women together if we ever finish Seabiscuit. We're at War Admiral at the moment. They are loving theatre camp. Wish I could send them for another week in July.
She's already done The Hobbit and The Human Comedy. The Yearling is a read-aloud for the three of us. Right now, we're reading Sea Biscuit.
She had a list of books she put off reading because they weren't AR books that she wanted for her prize. The 4th grader was very gracious- gave her a hand-made congratulations card.
So, Papa, which should I read next? Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer? Is there one I should read before the other?
By the way, I hit 7 million words!! I now hold the new record at Sequoya Elementary School! I won, I won, I won!! I just thought that was something you might want to know about... I'm really happy; I don't have to take AR tests anymore!!
Any other classics I should read over the summer? I was actually thinking about going back and reading the Harry Potter series and the Fablehaven series. They're my two favorite book series that I've read yet! Might go back and read the Percy Jackson series.
Papa- Will you bring your copy of a Christmas Carol to read while you are here with us? We all have our copies from you and thought it would be fun to read them all together. I can't wait to see my Christmas book!
P.S. Reading is never a chore!!!
Mariah is taking very seriously her promise to read a classic on your list every few books of her own. We have the Yearling sitting on my bedside stand for our next read-aloud. Both girls want you to bring your copy of the Christmas Carol so we can all read it aloud together while you are here.
Mariah decided she wanted to do The Water is Wide as a read aloud together. Did you forget it has lots of "colorful" language? Mariah skips those words. About every other word, I have to give her a definition/alternate word choice- definately a challenge, but we both like it.
