I love to read and have interests in quite a few areas. My main focus right now is technology (got to keep up, nearly at the speed of light), law (I am in the middle of a career change), classics, fantasy (LOTR style), medieval literature, celtic christianity, and some contemporary authors.

I'm just getting started with Shelfari and...more »

I finally finished Dracula! It took me so long because I read 3 or 4 other books in the mean time and had finals and lots of essays. It was well-written but not terribly engaging, but that may have been because I've seen plenty of movies based on it so there was no suspense, because I already knew what was going to happen. There were quite a few quotes in it I liked, though, and I'm glad I read it.

    Eclectic Book Club Peeps:

All righty, let's have those nominations for our next big read. What's everyone in the mood for?

Post your selections in the "Genres" thread and we'll hash it out. If that takes too much energy, I will put all genres nominated in a hat and pick one at random!

I really liked it! It was an interesting concept, had good characters, and a great ambiance. If you liked Delicatessen, you'd probably really like City of Lost Children, which is by the same person. I think I likes City of Lost Children even better.

The invitation to shelfari insiders should come on your home page. I've snet another one. If you still don't get it, then try just writing to Amanda or Timothy Gray on their homepages & leaving them a note w/ your idea.

Laura, I got your email, & I don't mind giving you my private email at all, BUT it seems your private notes aren't turned on. I do not want to post it here. So perhaps you need to send me your email first.

Russian names? Yes, I started over 2 years ago keeping a journal on what I read, which then led to me keeping an online blog of it, but anyway, I take notes on what I read, writing down names of the characters, important facts, etc.
The Celebration of Discipline book I checked out from the public library and took notes, but had to turn it back in. This was the second time for me to read it, great book!

No I did not read The Spiritual Disciplines for a group study, etc. just for me. The book also was recommended by another book I was reading Celebration of Discipline. I also love Britsh History, also like the same, Tudors, Stuarts and other in the British Monarchy. I've also read a little about French, Russian monarchy.

Hi Laura! Your nomination, Do Androids Dream... tied for April's reading in EBC. Would you like to lead the discussions? Since there was a tie, Beth & I decided to post both yours & Parable as the winners & members can read both or just one, whichever they fancy. =) Just tell the group when you'd like to start.

I started Law School Reader mainly because I don't know any other class members who have time to read for pleasure after completing the reading for class. Discussion can be on anything.

Check out what books we have in common. I don't think I know anyone else with that particular set of common books. Many of my favorites!

    Hi Laura,
Thanks for joining eclectic! Philip K. Dick definitely qualifies in my opinion for sci-fi. I like his writings too!
