I read primarily classic literature and historical fiction of all kinds. I love major family sagas (within historical periods) and books that just have really stunning writing.

Other than that my interests are great movies, mugs of hot tea, cider or cocoa (or coffee on occassion if it's particularly good), ethnic foods (particularly...more »

This book was fantastic!! Very moving story about a girl and her dreams who as a woman discovers how life can get in the way of those dreams. She finds that she still leads a very full life though, if not the one she imagined. A great story about the pleasures of being a good wife, mother, friend and overall person. The character of Katherine (who appears towards the end of the story) often annoyed me with her immaturity but she comes through as a good heart when it matters. This book reminded me alot of the Little House on the Prarie series.

Theres some good wit here but the ongoing existentialism and the whole thing with Adams refering to himself in third person in his own autobiography kinda drove me batty. Interesting references to other notable people in history of the Revolutionary and Civil War periods.

Heloise and Abelard both prove themselves as talented writers and educated people in the sheer writing of the letters. But I once read that this couple was touted as "one of the greatest romances of all time". In reality the physical relationship they shared was extremely brief and these letters are written over years that they are separated and cloistered, him in a monastery and her in a nunnery. Neither seem particularly pleased with the situation and go on infinitum about how they really just want to love each other and the world be damned. There is alot of bickering and finger pointing back and forth and it just left me wanting to say "Just drop the front already and run off together!" lol

This is the sequel to Too Deep For Tears. It was more difficult to get into this one. The story was still good but just not quite as rich and moving as the first book. I will say though that the last two parts (The story is divided in six parts or so) were pretty riveting so it was worth sticking with.

Patch has some great ideas for healthcare and Im all for the Gesundheit Institute and free healthcare. I think its brillant. The problem I had with this book is I had a difficult time keeping interest in it. Patch is a funny guy but sometimes his writing drifts into preaching and so my mind drifts away from the book. This book is more about the goals and ideals of the Institute rather than an autobiography, just so you know.

It's been quite a long time since Ive read a novel this good. Davis does a beautiful job seamlessly combining the history and culture of three different locations (Scotland, China and India) all in the late 1800s. The characters are well developed and touching and the writing is so good it keeps the interest of the reader for the whole 500+ page saga!

I read this in about an hour or two the other morning. I did like the story (I had read it previously for a class in jr high and did a monologue from it but did not remember it all that well now) but it never quite picked up the speed I was hoping it would. I do enjoy Williams' plays but after a reading a few, I get the impression they are more impactful when acted out. The words alone lack a little something. Still a worthy read though, be prepared for a sad ending.

This story was very entertaining though at times I found Gage a little stuck on himself. Still the history seemed well researched and the romance between the two plausible (more so in the end than in the beginning). I found some parts a little predictable but I still found it a good read that kept my interest very well.

Dialogue and the writing overall was too flowery and overdone for me to get into. Plus the plot just didnt get that interesting for me.

Took me longer to really get into this than with The Notebook but I gotta say the surprise Wilson gives Jane at the end is truly "Notebook" worthy! And it was nice to see the love between Allie and Noah go on and even how Noah admitted not every day was a fairytale like it sounded. This book did not grab me as much as The Notebook did (Wilson and Jane just were not as interesting characters as Allie and Noah were)but still worth a read just to see how the story continued.
