Love of books that speak of long journeys to strange places. What else? Time travel, a lot of fantasy and science fiction and throw in some horror to but none of the gory stuff. No, I'll take an old fashioned sinister, scary story over the extreme bloody stories thank you very much. And I want happy endings in my stories. That's not a demand but... more »

Hi, David G. Welcome to the Chiller group! Our authors for August are Stephen King and Dan Simmons. Feel free to read any of their books and post what you read, your review, etc. in the thread for August reads. If you do not want to participate that is fine too, just letting you know what is going on. There are also some other threads I want to tell you about. Introduce yourself, where you just tell all of us a little about yourself, and a title game is going on if you want to jump in there. Feel free to start your own discussion posts and browse our growing group shelf.

Any questions at all just ask, same for suggestions or ideas. If you would like to be added to the list of people that receives group update notes, please add Diamondgirl as a friend and leave her a note letting her know that you want Chiller updates.

Yes, I rather liked 'Time Crash' too. Watching it was a combination of 'aww' and 'rotfl'. It was a delight. And it fit what seems to be the specification for those sorts of skits these days, of being able to fit very well into the canon without having to be canonical, so to speak.

Ah, I'm not that old. Grew up with McCoy, but McGann (of the 1996 TV movie) is 'my' Doctor. Funnily enough, I was more interested in 'Chocky' because it was a John Wyndham story, and featured telepathy.

And regarding Para Handy, I enjoyed the stories a lot (even including the Scottish dialect in which all the dialogue was written) - and was an avid watcher of the BBC TV Para Handy miniseries some years ago. (Sadly I've no idea if it ever made it to DVD, but it should've.)

The only new series full-length standalone book I got was "The Clockwise Man", but it's a good read, so I can recommend it.

Hee - also a Scot (well, of Scottish descent) living as an ex-pat in the US! Looks like we have a number of tastes in common!
Will you be at the Gallifrey convention in February '08?
