I saw the film two days ago! How can I miss this film when it came out?! Awesome! Marisa Paredes was great as usual...Salma Hayek's role was well, a negligible cameo...must be hard to work with someone like Paredes...Jorge the Colonel was great...he had this Brandoesque aura...I highly recommend the movie...It gave great justice to Marquez' narrative which truly reflects the tropical slowness and lethargy

this beats Harry potter any time. the adventures of Alexander Cold with Nadia and the shaman Walimai are more breathtaking....at least Alexander depends on his intellect rather than on magic

My friend the tenor Dodo Crisol gave this book to me in 1989 and he wrote this on the first page:" Dearest Gigi, Something to replace dead ideologies"
Lots of fun to read....here's a quote from Oscar Wilde, upon seeing an English gentleman hunter running after a fox he exclaimed: The English country-gentleman galloping after a fox- the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable.....and from William Faulkner: Henry James was one of the nicest old ladies i've ever met.

The story took place in Kathmandu when it was just opening its doors to the outside world....the drama unfolds in Boris Lissanevicth's Royal Hotel, although I believe the author changed his name in the book...most of the characters in this book were real people ....
