Mike talked me into reading it. I think it has a nice message (even though I am an atheist), but that the writing was terrible. Especially toward the end with all the colors--ugh! I wanted to puke. I like the scholarly side of religion (I have a religious studies minor), so this type of thing doesn't appeal to me at all.

I LOVE Bill Bryson even when he just rambles along like I think he did in Made in America. I loved the section on cars and driving--how they didn't think driving would really catch on AND that the car companies finaced the first major roads. The idea that there wasn't anywhere to go really. Same thing with electricity in the home--it's not like people were sitting around with plug in appliances wishing they had a way to plug them in! You might also enjoy The Mother Tongue: English and How it Got That Way--also by Bryson. Finally, have you read The Highest Tide by Jim Lynch. Set in Olympia, a coming of age story that is infused with Rachel Carson, marine life, and reminds us how kids can develop obsessions that are deep and meaningful at an early age. Also a bunch of realistice boy-coming-of-age stuff that probably prevents it from being an "all read" in OA, but you could certainly recommend it to individuals. Have a good break! Not sure what I'll be reading next, so if you have any recommendations, I'll take them.

I've been plodding through Three Cups of Tea for a month. I like the plot, but the style is overwritten in places, I think. Plus I just haven't been reading as much--sad. We're going to Denver to take care of Mark's mom from Thursday night-Tuesday afternoon (two non-illness days), so I'm hoping to do some reading. My soul is hungry!

Any free second I have had has gone to spending time at home. Been pretty busy. You would like a couple of other books off my shelf.
