I'm reading Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses" at the moment. The first chapter starts fantastically, with a fall from a broken jet liner at 29,200 feet - one of the characters takes advantage and does stunts as he falls - might as well put the fall to good use, right? Writing it got Rushdie a fatwa - Islamic death sentence. I drew Mohammad (a stick figure cartoon), labeled it "Gay Mohammad," and posted his picture on my blog for "draw Mohammad day" - no fatwa for me yet.

The two Ken Follett books Alice and I read, "Pillars of the Earth" followed by "World Without End," are ones I think you would really like. They're historical fiction with a lot of drama and romance and very interesting stories and characters.

Another great book I read recently, "Wild Swans" about the lives of a Chinese woman, her mother, and grandmother. I think you would like it.

For a real change of pace, read "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jarred Diamond. It will really make you think about our world and its people.

You've been reading at a blistering pace. We're about to go on vacation for about a month - to Istanbul, Budapest, and New York City. I usually read a lot on our trips, and make up for not reading many books while we're home. Alice is reading all the time. In fact, at this very moment she'e at her Book Club meeting on The Sea Ranch.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

I don't think we have read any of the same books yet. I think you would like "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. You might call it a Medieval Junkie book, or almost an Historical Romance.
