I have a bit of a compulsion when it comes to acquiring books. My personal library is my happy place - it keeps me calm, the only problem is that I have acquired far more books than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime. I love both fiction and nonfiction. I am a history buff, especially NYC History and General American History (I am a... more »

Hi Brad, I am still waiting for my copy (due in the next week) - would be happy to join the group read (depending on when you are looking to start I guess).
    Thanks for the invite

Ah, that's too bad. The group of people I know on Goodreads are all pretty adventurous, like me. :-) I'll pop in when I can!

Brad, thanks for thinking about me for the group reads. Because I have my reading list prioritized in the order I want to read them in I must respectfully decline your invitation. I am hoping to get to Glenn's book in the not to distant future but am not sure when I will finish my commitment to read all of Jack Vance's books before the end of the year. Thanks again...

Ah, you're an obsessive bibliophile, too, eh? Heh. I have the same personality trait - I remember once I was at a counselor's office and started having an anxiety attack. She started me talking about books and I managed to calm right down! Pretty cool. I've also too many books to easily finish in my lifetime - so I guess I'll live forever! Check out my friend Kattgoddess (or maybe Katt_Goddess) - she's the same way.

I'd like to, Brad, and I loved the book - but I'm just beginning an editing project and that will be taking up all my time. When is the discussion to begin? How much time do you think it will take? Do you mind if I lurk?

Glenn's a great guy - I'll join up and hopefully will have time to take part once in awhile - I wouldn't mind re-reading it :-)

Brad, thanks so much for a thoughtful reply and for some good advice. I really had no idea how the group worked with respect to Group reads. I had nievely imagined that it was just a matter of someone like you in the group falling in love with a book -- so you would know it was worthwhile for everyone to read -- and then having the chance to do a Q&A with the author. My guess would have been your choice of what books/authors to do this with would be independant of an author's interaction with the group. I actually assumed that you invited authors to do a Q&A more often than one just happened to volunteer. Anyway, thanks for the clarification.

    All the best,
    Doug

Brad, hi. Thanks for getting back to me. I am the author of a technothriller and would love to lead a group discussion in a group read of my book. I have pasted some background on me and the book below, taken from the book's Amazon page. The book, WIRED, has been out a bit over a week and the reviews on Amazon and eleswhere have been positive beyond my wildest dreams. I'd love to send an electronic copy to you (or whoever you specify) to consider. Please let me know. Thanks!

    Doug

"A keep-you-up-all-night thriller. Intense action, mind-blowing concepts, & breathtaking twists. Enjoy the ride." --Boyd Morrison, bestselling author of THE VAULT.

Kira Miller is a brilliant genetic engineer who discovers how to temporarily achieve savant-like capabilities in all areas of thought and creativity. But what if this transcendent level of intelligence brings with it a ruthless megalomania?

David Desh left the special forces after his team was brutally butchered in Iran. Now he has been reactivated for one last mission: find Kira Miller, the enigmatic genius behind a bioterror plot that threatens millions. But when Desh learns that the bioterror plot is just the tip of the iceberg, he is thrust into a byzantine maze of deception and intrigue, and he becomes a key player in a deadly game he can't begin to understand. A game that is certain to have a dramatic impact on the future course of human history. . .

WIRED is a smart thriller crammed with breakneck action, mind-expanding science, and intriguing concepts readers will be contemplating long after they've read the last page.

Greetings to the Group. I am new here and still trying to find my way around. To be truthful, I initially joined the group to promote my debut novel, "The Second Advent: Disciples", but after sniffing around I like the "review/discuss" piece, as well. I've recently purchased, "The Footprints of God", by Greg Iles and look forward to posting a review and discussing the book with all.

No problem! And, good timing for you, it seems. :-) I'm hoping to finally read The Stand, but first, as a continuation of my Bunny Hop from a couple years ago at PBT, I have Salem's Lot coming up.

Hi, Brad! I know you're a big Stephen King fan, so I wanted to pop over here and let you know that he is our next seasonal author over at Author Author... Are you still in the group? Even if you don't think you can participate, I'm sure people will appreciate some recommendations. :-) That reminds me, I should go post it over at Group Read Central.

I will give it a shot. This group has a lot to offer. I have been a reader for more than 60 years and have still picked up some very good new (to me) authors.

    Brad,
I am retired and have time to help run a group. I do administer one group now, it is a word game group and requires only keeping things in order.
Give me a couple of things that are necessary to know about this kind of group and IF no one else shows an interest, I will give it a try.

Good Advice. Thanks Brad. I am in the midst of revising the print edition and have just finished getting my LibraryThing account set up. Please excuse the one book on the shelf for now, as it is simply a marker.
