I was so disappointed with this book. I had been looking forward to reading it for a long time but it just seemed a little depressing.

I had a difficult time getting into this book at first and almost put it down. However it was a good book looking back on it. The main character is an Asian girl from a very wealthy family who loves to snow board but blew out her knee and was trapped in an avalanche. She uses manga to try and work through what caused her to take the reckless trip that resulted in her accident as well as the difficult relationship she has with her family. She learns by the end of the book how to stand up for what she wants and look more carefully at things.

A surprising glimpse into the history and beliefs of the Mormon faith and how some fundamentalists twisted this faith (like they do almost all others) and this causes them to take actions that are not good. The murder in that this book is about comes from FLDS faith which prompts some men to believe that god wants them to kill their brothers wife and child. The research and history in this book are fascinating since as the author explains Mormonism is the only modern developed faith that has recent documentation that can be examined.

The Lightning Thief is the first in a series of book that follow Percy Jackson. In this book Percy learns about his father and his heritage, that being the fact that his father is a god and that makes him a target for the monsters. Percy is given a quest and takes two friends with him on a journey across the County which results in meeting gods and monsters along the way.

  • The Year My Sister Got Lucky
    • Rated 4 stars

This was actually a good book. It is the story of a girl named Katie and her sister who live in New York and both girls are avidly studying ballet. Big changes are coming though when their parents decide to move the family out of the city and into a small country town. The story tells of the experiences of both girls with this change and by the end of the book the girls realize how much they have changed but that some things will always remain constant.

Your basic chick lit story of a girl who leaves her boring sensible job and gets swept away in the NY nightlife and party planning. She goes through the normal challenges and comes out a better wiser person in the end.

  • Pirates!

A fun story of a female pirate, she tells of how she became a pirate and her life as a pirate. There are plenty of adventures and suspense in the tale and was a worthy read.

There are three short stories in this book, two of which have been previously released, the third new one as a good fast read along the same lines as the other Lord John stories.

  • Princess Mia

Princess Mia is finally started to really grow up in this book. Things in her life are not going her way and its more than just the drama she makes for herself. She deals with real issues and in the end finally stands on her own feet. I was very happy with the ending.
