Hi Sharon, long time no...just wanted to let you know that my 90 second movie is up on youtube...here's da link: youtube.com/msrobinglasser...if you like it, please tell your friend...no friends? tell your enemies...hope all's well in your world...read any good books lately...hee hee
Hey stranger!How's life??
Hey Sharon,I'm only a few chapters into 'A Painted House', but so far I am liking it... although nothing has started happening yet, I'm still in the "getting to know the characters" part of the book (LoL!) But it does look promising, it is easy to read ~ always a good thing! I'll let you know how I like it. I haven't read a Bryce Courtenay for a while, I like him a lot. I see he has a sequel to 'Persimmon Tree' now (but I haven't read either yet). Can you believe that I own the first 5 in the 'Cross Stitch' series of Diana Gabaldon, and still have never read them... I have no idea why not... as I know I will probably love it (have heard such great things, and nothing bad about it!) I think it is the size of them, and the fact that there are so many now... and I'm such a slow reader... kind of daunting for me!I don't envy you at all, regarding selling your house! Especially if you are having open homes (are you?) I think we only had about 4 or 5 open homes before we gave up... I hated it!! Yet some people perservere for several months... I don't know how they do it! Good luck ~ let me know how it goes.As for my weekend plans, well today was ordinary... a bit of housework, while my hubby cleaned the car, and fixed the fence and drain-pipe (we had a vandal). Then some grocery shopping. Excitement plus! LoL!I guess I deserve a quiet weekend even if it is a tad boring. The best thing today was that my son picked a dvd and suggested we have a "family night" seeing the school holidays are coming to an end. That was nice. We need to do that more often.Tomorrow my hubby and son are going on a trip with the Cub-scouts to Wanganui, to travel on the paddle-steamer. So I will be home alone... and plan to read, do crafts and hobbies, and catch up on lots of things... I will probably put the crock-pot on in the morning so I don't have to stop to get dinner ready. I'm looking forward to some "me time".Much different from last weekend, we had my son's birthday "sleep-over party" on Saturday night... so had a house full of 8-year-old boys... and much noise, but a lot of fun. I felt like I had a hang-over all day Sunday... haha!!As for mediums, I too enjoyed the series 'Sensing Murder'... the only thing was that I found it so frustrating that the police wouldn't follow their leads. In other countries the police work with mediums, so why not here? I have seen Deb Webber (from Sensing Murder) live, she was amazing. Colin Fry is also very good, I've been to see him 3 times now, and read his book... but probably wouldn't go again if he came. I've also seen Jeanette Wilson, but wouldn't recommend her at all... after seeing the other two I found her style very unprofessional, and she hardly came up with any connections at all. Good to hear you are back into your reading group... I haven't been to mine for several weeks... and I am thinking of pulling out of it. Talk soon,Jo
Hi Sharon! Echo in the Bone was good, but the ending was rather irritating, as Gabaldon left some characters right in the middle of things. Not just her typical endings where some people are pondering what to do next, but right in the middle of a harrowing adventure and imminent danger. And now I have to wait three years to see how it ends. Ugh.
hey sharon, just noticed you have read Kelvin Cruickshank's book... I didn't realize you were into spiritualism/mediums etc. I am too. I would love to see him next time he comes here... he is one of my favourites. Have you seen him live?Jo
Great. Send me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com), and I'll send you the e-book version of the book. Thanks,Chris
Hi Sharon,I enjoyed "The To-Do List"... it was very easy reading, light and fun... but in a way it was a serious subject... I could sympathize with him so much... it was almost echo-ing my life at times... my problem is that I am great at starting things... but terrible at actually getting things finished, so I have so many things just half-done and left... I truly lack in motivation! Now I am reading "My Sister's Keeper", and liking it so far... this is my first Jodi Picoult book... up until now I have avoided reading her... I'm not entirely sure why, probably partly due to the hype around her books, and also because I just thought that they wouldn't appeal to me. But now I have found I was wrong, then I may try more of her books in the future.Good luck with your house sale! Let me know how this goes :)I think it was about this time last year that we took our house off the market (when it didn't sell)... such a stressful time in my life that was! Especially when my hubby took off to Australia the week that we put it on the market, leaving me to do all the cleaning, gardening, de-cluttering and painting etc... I was not amused! Mind you, it was a spur of the moment thing because we had found our 'dream home' and put in an offer (subject to ours selling, of course)... not a good idea... so yes, I agree with you... don't even go looking until you've sold yours!!Right now we are in the middle of renovating and re-decorating... it is a slow and 'painful' job... because we are not D.I.Y people at all - but our budget won't stretch to paying professionals to do it for us - it is costing a small fortune as it is :(My back is a lot better thanks, still not 100% but getting there slowly... I am still seeing the chiropractor, but now only once a week. When the weather improves I look forward to getting back into walking and doing more physical stuff to get me moving again. Naturally I didn't feel like doing anything when my back was at it's worst, but now that I am feeling better I will make an effort.Oh, yes... we have discovered 'Stickman'... and loved it! What a delightful book :)Did you notice that Stickman himself was on the cover of "The Gruffalo's Child"? I didn't until my son pointed it out to me... I love it how these books all tie in together. My boy is too old for such picture books now (he's into Goosebumps and Captain Underpants etc)... but we loved the books by this author so much when he was younger, that we can't resist reading whenever a new one comes out!I highly recommend "Monkey Puzzle" by the same author too (if you haven't already read it)... that one was my absolute favourite! I just love it :)Talk soon,Jo
Thanks for friending me Sharon. I am going to take a peek at your shelf as well. I hope you like My French Wh*re let me know what you think. Have a nice day.Tanya
Hey Sharon, well, so far "The To-Do List" is winning my attention... I'm liking the writing style a lot, very easy to read, and fun... but the subject matter is 'scary'... haha! It's almost like when he is describing his life, he is describing mine... right now I feel like I'm drowning, with the amount of "things I have to do"!! This book may be exactly the kind of motivation I need!!As for "T.S Spivet"... that was interesting too... but I'm not a "two book" person... and the other one is getting more of my attention... so I will probably return it to the library and get it another time... I haven't given up on it yet. It's about the adventures of a 12-year old boy... and has got lots of interesting diagrams and maps and charts on almost every page (but to tell you the truth, I think that is the appeal more so than the story itself)... we'll give it another chance at a later date, see if I get into it easier second time around... I don't often give books a second chance!I hope Ana is getting better, poor thing!?My boy has been sick this week too... on the weekend he had some kind of virus, and couldn't even keep water down... then this left him with the usual snotty nose for a couple of days, but seemed to be so bad (needed a truck load of tissues!)... then to top it all off he got an ear infection... he is now on anti-biotics so is back to his usual energetic self.
Hi Sharon,Glad to see you are still reading!I just updated my shelf again, as I have just finished "Twilight" and "Coraline" and added my reviews. Now I have started "Selected Works of T.S Spivet"... which looks to be interesting and a little different... however, I think that it will be due back at the library before I even start getting into it. So I am also going to start "The To-Do List"... which not only looks fun, but will have me considering my own life... as yes, I am the world's biggest procrastinator... and have my own To-Do list as long as my arm!!Also on my list for the near future is ~ "My Sister's Keeper", "Time Travellers Wife", and "The Lovely Bones"... all because they have movies coming out soon, and being a bit of a movie-buff I like to see them all... but do prefer to read the books first.Of couse there are many others that I also wish to read, so the pressure is on to get them all read! And you know I am a slow reader! What are you reading ~ and planning to read?
Hi Sharon, just finished watching the "Sunday" documentary about Christian (the Lion from Harrods) and was wondering if you saw it too??WoW... brings a lump to my throat just thinking about it... I bought the book for my Mum a couple of months ago (just added it to my TBR)... but have never got the chance to read it yet, because she has been lending it out to her friends. Can't wait to read it.Anyway, hope you are well... Talk soon,Jo
hey sharon!wow, you haven't been on here since "forever" ~ are you still reading?I have just finished a great book... 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society', and stopped by to recommend it to you... it has made a firm placing on my "all time favourite" list... I can see why everyone is talking about this book!Anyway, keep in touch!
oh, i meant to tell you, that the book i am reading now is also coincedentally about a dog.It is a wonderful read, a true story about a guy that goes blind from an accident and loses his will to live... until he is teamed up with a guide dog called Nelson, who is on his "last chance" at being a guide dog (after facing rejection from 2 previous owners!) It is really "an eye-opener" (excuse the pun) for me, to see what it is like to be blind, and how guide dogs are trained to do their job etc.The author is also blind (since birth) and when i looked him up found out that he is a great golfer, snow skier, marathon runner, author, actor, singer and composer... just to name a few... puts me to shame! On a more personal note, the timing of me reading this book is uncanny, as my Dad has just had an eye operation on his "good eye" (he is blind in the other)... fingers crossed it all goes well... he may end up totally blind himself :(
Enjoy Marley... it is a cute read (in your case "listen" haha) ~ the writing slyle was more professional than Dewey (although it should be, as the author is a journalist).I have never really got into audios... the one that i tried had a voice so stuck-up that it put me off!!But i am going to try again one day.No worries about FB... sorry you had a bad week! Hope things are better now :)
Hi Sharon,I think you will like Dewey, although compared to many other books you have read, I think you'll find the writing style is a bit amateurish... it's a shame really, because it is a lovely story. I enjoyed it all the same, and gave it 5 stars only because i am such a sucker for animal stories of any kind... but if I was rating it solely for the actual book/writing etc it probably deserved only about 3 if i am totally honest! oh, you're blonde now? haha... you're like me then, i'm changing mine all the time... you will have to update your pic on FB now so i can see... haha... just kidding, my pic on there is probably over a year old... well, i finally got round to uploading the rest of the parade photos on FB... that is the last of the Disney ones now... phew, onto other places next! Must pop over there to check what's new, haven't been there today.Catch ya later,Jo
I have "The Art of Racing in the Rain" on my list to read, and hope to get to it sometime in the next couple of months... glad to see it was a 5 star for you!
You're terrible!Just kidding :) I'm sure your son won't blame his sister for forgetting... haha... hope you managed to find something!I'm not really up to much, i have a nasty cold... keeping Kleenex in business again... must be this terrible changable weather... where was summer?oh... the last of our butterflies flew away yesterday... it was quite a sad moment (LoL!) We only had 3 out of 4 survivors after all that... one of them was born with crumpled up wings and couldn't fly... that was so sad!I don't really have any other news right now... not that butterflies is exactly exciting to talk about... how is your training going for your marathon?
just dropping by to say hi ~ how's everything?
meet 'Lucky'... LoL... not that you have never seen a butterfly of course... but i am oh so proud... haha... if you look very closely to the branch on the left you will see his old chrysalis skin (LoL! i know the pic is too small)... anyhow, he is appropriately named given the fact that i killed them all, he is one of the lucky few to survive... perhaps maybe even originally the caterpillar my son found crawling on the footpath at the front of our house (when we ran out food and they all departed never to be seen again! thats when we ended up buying more plants for the few survivors.) so yes he is 'lucky' he didn't get squashed, by people walking by. Funny, my aunty gave us each a gift when they arrived... mine was a beautiful chain and the motif is a butterfly... such a coincedence, she knew nothing about the butterflies, and on the same day we have our first one "hatch". Now it seems the necklace actually has a meaning :)Now i just hope for the rain to stop, so the butterfly can fly off in safety... it is soooo heavy. Now, for the 3rd time... haha... i'll go... you must think i am mad :)oh, i'll add the book to my list, like i need another tbr... haha... but it does sound good, one i would probably have never read otherwise... the title wouldn't have done a thing to make me pick it up... haha... strange, sometimes a title can make or break a book.
i'm back... your book sounds interesting... i have just started 'The Wise Woman' by Philippa Gregory... so far so good.oh, and i forgot to tell you... we had a really loud commotion going on from our son and his friend today... we went to see what the excitement was all about ~ to find our very first butterfly has "hatched" ~ WooHoo! We have 3 more chrysalis in progress... one only formed today, he was a caterpillar this morning... it's amazing how quick the process is huh, and only one caterpillar left ~thank god! because there are literally no leaves for the poor things to munch on... one of the chrsalis is hanging on a piece of string i was using to tie back the branches of the plants (when they were at the unruly stage!)... he had nowhere else to hang, poor thing! I have photos... might put some up as icons so you can see :)Was quite good to have the butterfly hatch while our family is here... don't think they have monarchs in U.K... he put on a great display for them :) Luckily we have the plants in a dry area, we have had sooooooo much rain lately (and flooding) they would have got washed away!Ok... now i will really go this time... catch ya later :)
