Hey Tom, those 2 books you mentioned that will be coming out--both are books I would love to read! Just a little aside: I still have the waiver that an Elvis impersonator pulled out of his trunk. It was basically a form that would prevent anyone from making fun of him. That totally cracked me up.
Hey, I tried to find your book Pullers at Barbara's Bookstore in Oak Park over the weekend. No luck--will try here in Madison at Borders.
ps. Would love to see your photos. I'm an art director that works with photographers and illustrators and ALWAYS love to see new images.

Hi Carolyn: Pullers was released in 1998 and can be ordered by bookstores, but probably isn't on many shelves at this point. Amazon.com is probably the best place to get copies now. The Robert Johnson book will be available in October (such a long time away) and the Oxford American Book of Great Music Writing is due in November. The RJ book is on the publisher's website at: http://www.demersbooks.com/crossroads.html
I took two rolls of film of Harry Crews in Gainesville, one in color, one in b/w. They have turned up in many places. Harry used one of them twice in Playboy. I mentioned the documentary with the photos. Also the web site devoted to Harry has a few of these photos, some of them good and some so-so. Some of the best are not in that batch. Link is: http://www.harrycrews.com/Personal/Portraits/index.html

So, do you write too? Very good hearing from you. -- Tom Graves

p.s. I'd like to get some of my photos registered with Corbis (Corbin?) or another place, but it seems like running thru a maze dealing with those folks. I'd appreciate any suggestions if you know about such things.

    Hey Tom,
Thanks so much for the note. I will definitely look for your book! Did you submit your book for Crews to read or do you know him? That guy is such a character. A relative of mine shot a documentary about Harry Crews and I have yet to see it. I love his interviews though--at least the ones I've scrounged all over for. This is so exciting--a new book to read! Good luck with your book! c

Carolyn: Thanks for your kind reply. If you read Pullers I hope very much you will enjoy it. Yes, I am acquainted with Harry Crews and interviewed him at length, an interview which appeared in the book Getting Naked With Harry Crews that I imagine you are familiar with. One of the two documentaries on Crews, I forget which one, used some of my photos of Crews as well. FYI I have another book coming out in Oct., a bio titled Crossroads: The Life and Afterlife of Blues Legend Robert Johnson. In Nov. a piece I'm very proud of will appear in book form, an article on the very first Elvis impersonator that will be in The Oxford American Book of Great Music Writing. I hope I'll get back to some gritty fiction this summer. Best again -- Tom Graves

Hi. If you enjoyed Harry Crews' book Body you might enjoy my book Pullers too. Crews himself gave me a nice plug for the cover. Best, Tom Graves
